barista gave me free item instead of discount, should I say something? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by dontcry2022
It happened really quick but they clicked partner beverage instead of discount, I think

I don't want them to get fired or anything, I'm socially awkward tho and don't like making scenes of things

I guess it wouldn't be much work for them right? They'd just rering it, I'd pay, they'd void the other transaction and tell the person on bar to ignore the ticket

it’s not usually a big deal! whenever i stop by my store, they give me a mark out. it’s usually a sign of good faith lmao

You won’t get in trouble, as you weren’t the one ringing it up. They could, though.

I would say something to your sm cause that would happen to me when I would stop at the other store in my district they would always mark out my drink instead of discounting, and I told her cause I didn’t feel comfortable saying anything. It’s better to tell than not say anything cause they do look at our markouts

I wouldn’t worry tho cause they have cameras on registers for this reason! If they see you’re trying to pay they’re not going be upset at you! It will fall back on who ever rang you up because they’re the one not following the rules

Lmao unless the SM is a raging bitch I wouldn’t worry about it

Nah, if your SM says anything you can explain what happened and let them know it won’t happen again. It’s usually just newer baristas. It’s better to let one of their fellow partners coach them instead of a partner from another store. If you go again, I would specifically say “I have my partner numbers for my discount.” That helps me.

I do this sometimes just to be nice and cause I know the risk is very minimal. I just do it for partners that work at my store unless I’m feeling super nice that day. If I had a manager who was more strict then I wouldn’t do it. I’d be annoyed if someone (the person I’m giving the free drink to) called me out on it cause like no shit I know what I’m doing technically isn’t allowed but I can make that choice for myself.

Only for beverages though I don’t do it for food cause I have no idea whether they were saving there mark outs for breaks or not.

Partners already get free drinks on the job if I give one free drink out to a partner on there day off it makes no difference for starbucks. We already give out tons of free drinks (usually for customers who don’t deserve it, to make the “moment right” even when sometimes these customers are taking advantage, know what they are doing and scamming us) of course sometimes it’s a genuine mistake (I forgot to say ice!) and I as the employee forgot to ask if they wanted it hot or iced.

Take the free stuff and stfu honestly. You’re complaining about free stuff???
dontcry2022 [OP] 3 points 8m ago
Not sure how you interpreted this post as a complaint

you would actually be the one that got in trouble if anything. because its your responsibility to keep track of your markouts and making sure they’re within the 30 minutes before/after your shifts. absolutely ask them to void the transaction and do partner discount.
Hot-Independence8670 9 points 8m ago
oh hell naw they give me my mark out i’m taking it as a blessing.

Unfortunately they are correct. I’ve seen some partners terminated because of this :/ it got to a point where partners came in crying because the store they went to used the freebie and they thought they would be let go for it

right idk why I’m being downvoted because I’m not wrong. its corporate policy.
