How do u survive connection meetings? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by maryleahyupchurch
I’m only 3 weeks in. I think everything is going fine & instead it turns out my manager thinks I’ve been dismissive & frustrated with a barista (I’m hired as shift supervisor) - among other things that seems like misunderstandings. My manager speaks in one tone only & is dry and cold. How can he accuse me of not being empathetic when he’s like this. Super demoralized & embarrassed. Couldn’t get through this “meeting” without tears.

My sm did the same thing to me. Had only been a shift for less than 4 months and with the company overall right around a year. She claimed I was being rude to a barista and saying “imagine how he felt” when I was stating that we needed to help him on warming. For context a crap ton of mobile orders came in at once and the car in the drive was waiting for egg bites for 17 mins already. I also wasn’t running the shift, my sm was. Anyways she put me on a 3 week improvement plan, and stated “if we don’t see any improvement, we’re gonna be having a different conversation”. This was about 3 weeks ago. She just fired me yesterday for “using profanity on the floor” which I never did. My advice is, get out! I missed my chance of transferring before she found some excuse to fire me.

God, I'm sorry. It sounds like sbux is hiring more managers who rely on these petty and passive aggressive tactics. I cant comprehend it. You deserve better.

If you think you'd like to go back to work at a different store, a friend who's also a partner was telling me the other day that it's really hard not to get rehired by sbux. Apparently, it's really only theft that will have you banned as a rehire.
