Manager won’t let SSV cover a baristas 4 hour shift? (self.starbucksbaristas)

I am a SSV and one of my baristas asked if I could cover their 4 hour shift. When they asked my manager for approval, she declined and said to find another barista because of different pay rates.
Is that allowed? Or is she just mad at me for leaving early on a shift for not feeling well. She gets mad at us easily.

This happens frequently at my store, unfortunately. They'd rather us run a shift down a partner than allow "shift compliment".

Never heard of such a thing. Maybe some people practice it but I'm sure it's not a standard

yep that is a thing. baristas cant cover for shifts too obviously, but yeah you need manager approval for shifts covering for baristas because of labor. like top comment said, they'll do anything to cut labor and look good for *their* bosses, so theyd rather just be down a barista.
