barista vs supervisor? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Normal_Human_4567
Hi folks! I'm considering taking the step from barista to supervisor. I've been at my store for a year and a half, longer than a few of the supervisors even. I'm definitely qualified but just wondering how different it is, how much more work there is?

As it stands I'm held in pretty high regard and well-trusted as a barista, I'm just worried about being awful as a supervisor and losing the trust my store has in me 😅

What does a supervisor do that a barista doesn't? How heavy is the workload? Also worth noting I'm in the UK and this is less than £1 an hour pay rise

if its less than 1£ raise I’d say its not worth it. much more responsibility than whats worth an extra 1£.

I’m a US partner and we get a $4 difference in pay. It’s the only thing that makes it worth it. Not that being said if you like leadership and solving difficult puzzles then the job is for you regardless of pay. There’s more expectations and if something goes wrong it’s on you regardless of if you did it. But generally it’s an enjoyable experience. It’s more paperwork and off the floor based tasks. But you can delegate the work you don’t like doing to other partners

You’ll be in charge of the play usually, adjusting it for the business needs in the moment. There’s also pulls depending on the day as well as counting the tolls and safe plus doing orders. Again it changes based on day.

You’ll have more responsibility outside of yourself mainly. Like supporting partners during disruptions and coaching etc. you’re a leader basically.
