Does any other stored have beef between morning crew and night crew?(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Cornucopia_peaches69
Hi, so I was just curious if any other stores are experiencing extreme morning crew vs night crew beef? Because I'm a mid shift and I notice that a lot of shit talking is happening between morning and night crews. As a mid shift I try to keep the peace and be the diplomat but It still extremely upsets me that everyone is talking shit on each other and can't seem to have any compassion or understanding for either crews. Everyone is saying I'm playing devils advocate by trying to talk to them about understanding the others issues and problems. Please let me know if it's just my store that's toxic. :)

I said this before but it's based on leadership
All of the ssvs at my store use to and know how to close.
It makes a huge difference when everyone of the ssvs experience all day parts regularly.
Last night was rough on our closers so we didn't come into the best thing. A very self promoting opener barista was talking about how good she did on a week day night as apre closer(can confirm it was dead that day), and when i said it looks like it was tough on them last night, her response was "no I did it Wednesday night, it was easy, there shouldn't be any excuses of tough shifts from then as excuses for bad closes "
I shut that down immediately "No, we're not going to make judgement calls on other people's shifts, especially if we weren't there" -me
"I wasn't making any judgement calls" she said
"Yes you were" I said and repeated what she had just said to her. "You closed on a week day night, which is one of the slower nights on our store, last night was a sat night, families are out ordering multiple drinks, you don't know how busy they were, what they had to go through or any of that. The best thing we can so is assume they tried their best. We're not going to promote that way of thinking and I don't want to hear it on my floor"
She immediately started to backtrack what she said but I ignored her after that point.

OMG I need your courage to shut people down like that. I have a barista that's starting something and when I try to tell them to stop they start deflecting and then I just start ignoring them.

So there's this channel on yt called Charisma on Command, they have a few videos on how to be assertive with out being a jerk in an argument, I would recommend them

Every job I’ve ever worked at, the openers are always pissed at the closers. Even if the close is beautiful. I’m not that way personally, I don’t have that kind of energy to expend
claretamazon16 points8m ago
It's minimum at my store now that one supervisor is gone. Most of the supervisors now have worked both open and close, and the one that usually doesn't got a rude awakening last night when we had three callouts and were slammed with only three people trying to do everything in the store.
95% of the morning shift has never worked the night shift, but most of the night shift has done later morning and mid shifts. So there is grumbling, but not much.

Ew no I always work super hard to have night crew set up well and always thank them no matter WHAT they get done. Closing is so hard and they are always understaffed and bust their asses. Without them, we would not be prepared for peak. I love night crew ❤️❤️❤️
linseeded9 points8m ago
My store does bc management keeps us understaffed, so morning and night can never prep the store properly. That leaves them feeling bitter about the other group and blaming each other for not being able to get sht done rather than the real problem: our manager. I started as morning and am now mid/closer and def see the hostility, but it wasn’t like that until the new manager came in.

Mine did, night crew thought the morning was the golden child as the SM mostly worked with them. The logic the SM said was like 85% of the sales were between 5:00 and 11:00 so that is why she was there.
Midieval3 points8m ago
It’s believable for SM to say “most sales are in the morning” but 85% sounds a little far-fetched?

I’ve worked at 2 stores and both of them never got along w each other. My first store truly had beef but were so fake to each other in-person, and my second store just didn’t get along and nit-picked so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

if anyone tries to start “openers vs closers” bs i shut that shit down real fast. i work all shifts, opens mids and closes, and each one has its own perks and downsides. not every open goes well, and not every close is easy. everyone is here for the paycheck and we are all on the same team. if you wanna debate who “works harder” you can find somewhere else to work. i used to work with a manager who would enable that kind of behavior and it made me so mad, why would you pin your employees against each other 😭😭
yungfroggie4 points8m ago
no, you definitely got a toxic store.. at my store we, as shift supervisors at least, generally get swapped around a lot and never experience just one particular day part. we like to complain when morning doesn’t get stuff done as always, but it’s never a big deal. we only really shit on the store manager for only ever opening and then commenting on our closes, and this one barista who said night crew doesn’t do anything when she’s never at the store past 12pm lol!

I wanna know what store doesn’t have beef between open and close cause my store does
Comfortable-Plane9443 points8m ago
Ive worked both open and close. I’m strickely open now and the only time I have beef with close is when they leave things empty that should have been restocked or dishes to the back. This morning the MOcha was empty, the matcha was empty and both bases were empty. That’s the shit that drives me insane

I work at a relatively new store, and yes absolutely. It's mostly drama caused by our opening shift lead, who is an absolute garbage can of a human being.
They've been a partner for over a decade, going for an ASM position with no luck, which you'd think would tell you something. But they constantly bash the closing shift for not doing enough. HOWEVER. This opening shift lead is besties with the Store Manager, and they schedule only 3 or 4 people MAX for closing and want them to get an entire store closed within a half hour to an hour of closing. It's ridiculous. They set our closing shift up for failure then blame them as well. So, yes. My store is super toxic. It does happen.
Stemajos1 points8m ago
Honestly, the beef is all up to the manager, if you have a good manager the store won’t have morning vs night beef but if you don’t then they’ll let ssv get away with things, especially morning ssv because they are more”needed” in term of otw time and connecting during peak
Torirock101 points8m ago
not rly. we all kinda open/close together there’s not really anymore set morning people anymore cuz they all left lmao
Cubby_pup1 points8m ago
I'm so thankful that since returning to the bux a year ago, I haven't experienced a divide in morning/night crew. In the past, I've seen my fair share of toxic morning/night drama and it can be so incredibly draining. Now we just each assume the other is doing there best and if we leave them with a mess, we don't mean to.
wok3less1 points8m ago
we have an awful morning v night dynamic. morning crew is all older people who refuse to work past 3pm and will never know night time. night crew is angry highschoolers who never get told they did a good job. its rough
SNES1821 points8m ago
Depends on the store. My last store had a night crew who would legit refuse to wash most things at night.
darkwolf5231 points8m ago
Sometimes
AppointmentLatter3020 points8m ago
This morning yes usually no
But night crew didn’t do anything last night. Didn’t make back ups, didn’t clean the machines, didn’t clean ovens, didn’t stock or anything
