Is anyone else getting under booked? How am I supposed to meet the 12 hours per week average if I’m only being scheduled for 4 hours a week? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Mr-Yoop
Also, when did the quarter start? I know it ends around January 3rd… right?
aaronbdancer 77 points 8m ago
The quarter started October 3rd. I’d talk to your sm about it, and see if it’s an availability issue or they just aren’t being thorough
Mr-Yoop [OP] 16 points 8m ago
That’s a good idea, I’ll do that. Thanks!
aph-twizzlerland 66 points 8m ago
The same is happening to me and my manager claims it's bc I called off for being sick too much (I had covid) and so he's giving the hours to people before me (his words) and he said he can't give me more bc of labor hours. Idk how starbuvks expects anyone to meet that minimum when they don't give enough hours
defendpoppunk77 107 points 8m ago
This is retaliation and it’s illegal. File a report with the partner contact center.
Mr-Yoop [OP] 31 points 8m ago
Dude that’s so shitty. I’ve been sick twice this quarter already, and I’m a new partner so I don’t have enough sick time to cover all the hours I’ve missed. It sucks.
aph-twizzlerland 9 points 8m ago
I didn't havr enough hours either :( I only have like 10 now I think if he didn't put them on my past call offs. I work this job to pay for myself and it feels unfair that high-school kids that don't provide for themselves are getting more hours than me bc I was literally SICK but he doesn't care :( the rest of November I have only like 20 hours
GarbageValuable1888 10 points 8m ago
Respectfully, you don’t have the right to assume why someone is working a job. It’s a sucky situation for all - but this is bordering on entitled. I know plenty of high schoolers that work here to support their families & keep food on the table.
aph-twizzlerland 10 points 8m ago
I'm friends with these high schoolers and i know them, they don't support anyone. If I didn't know I wouldn't say that

the 12 hours is supposed to be a requirement for managers to schedule you an average of that. that should not at all be on you for them lacking.
emotional-trauma 20 points 8m ago
GIRL IM SUPPOSED TO BE SCHEDULED FOR LIKE 20-25 AND IM LITERALLY WORKING 37
ThreeBlindBadgers 5 points 8m ago
Lol literally, some districts are struggling to hire anybody to cover shifts and others are shorting the people they do have. I’m an opener, so the amount of people willing to wake up at 3:30am is admittedly low, but I asked for 15 and was getting 40.
imathrowayslc 3 points 8m ago
Yeah. I want exactly 20. I usually do 22-25.

If you want hours come to central Jersey. There’s like 10 stores that will get you 30+ hours.
h2otower 12 points 8m ago
YES! I have been with sbux over 10 years and all of a sudden, I am getting only 9 hours per week.

1. I requested 2 days off so I am getting punished
2. new employees completed training so they have my hours
3. Will lose my healthcare and get fired cuz low hours but not by my choosing

I have always trusted this current manager cuz they are also longtime employees so it makes me sad they are putting me in this position. It''s hard to live on $300 paychecks.

I thought things would get better when Howard returned.......
SeaworthinessGold846 8 points 8m ago
Maybe they are trying to get you to leave?
Mr-Yoop [OP] 10 points 8m ago
I would like to say you’re wrong, but I honestly wouldn’t put it past them.
SaevioAvis 6 points 8m ago
This is considered constructive dismissal. And depending on what state you’re on, you can file for unemployment until they either take you off the schedule completely or start giving you hours back. It’s a federal law.
quique772 7 points 8m ago
4 hours a week? I ain’t even gonna show up to anything less than 30 hours a week
Puzzleheaded_You2601 2 points 8m ago
No need to brag 😰 but jk good for you getting those hours
Necessary_Low939 7 points 8m ago
Is this 12 hr min thing even true? Some people getting scheduled 8 or 4… like wtf.
WAtransplant2021 7 points 8m ago
There is a partner in a neighboring store that is picking up more hours as a borrowed partner than in their home store. They have requested a transfer to our store and their worthless manager will not submit the paperwork 🤬
GinasteraBabe 2 points 8m ago
On the transfer paperwork, it legit has timelines for both the SM and DM to submit to the various other people. So if they give that transfer paperwork to their SM with the date signed on there, I believe it's 2 weeks from that date that they HAVE to submit to the DM. Definitely encourage them to continue attempting to get their transfer to your store, and make sure they make their SM aware of the timelines on the paperwork
Necessary_Low939 1 points 8m ago
I’m trying to transfer too. That person needs to print the transfer paper from partner hub. Scan and email both the sm and dm. They should open up a case and all with partner resources.
Mr-Yoop [OP] 2 points 8m ago
Yup. It’s a fairly new policy. I think a lot of people are going to lose their jobs because they’re getting underbooked
Necessary_Low939 4 points 8m ago
People are just gonna start leaving n the company will just recycle people over n over. Soon the numbers will be 400xxxxx
AshMoony 1 points 8m ago
It’s real as far as I know. My friend was given her separation date because she only works 8hrs one day a week (and lately they’ve only been scheduled for 5 because our manager isn’t scheduling non ssv partners for more than 5.5)
Necessary_Low939 1 points 8m ago
Wtf so u can get separated if u don’t work more than 12? What if the sm doesn’t schedule u?
Necessary_Low939 1 points 8m ago

gonerstruce 2 points 8m ago
ask to be borrowed out to all the stores in the district. that way the scheduling app will show you available shifts from all the nearby stores in the district to claim instead of just your home store
Mr-Yoop [OP] 1 points 8m ago
That’s a great idea! Thank you :)
ilymttbltt 2 points 8m ago
Same, 0 hours last week and this week! I’m available everyday but Tuesday so not sure what’s going on
kaylalynneldred 2 points 8m ago
omg please please talk to someone about that that is not okay at all
ilymttbltt 2 points 8m ago
yea i definitely will, just not sure how to approach it. and since she’s our new store manager, i’ve never really spoken with her.
AshMoony 2 points 8m ago
Same! I’m very frustrated
Personal_Loan_2665 -19 points 8m ago
i’m pretty sure you really only have to be available for like 18 hours,, doesn’t matter how much you get scheduled
Mr-Yoop [OP] 26 points 8m ago
That’s not true. You have to meet an average of 12 hours a week.
aaronbdancer 15 points 8m ago
You have to average 12 hours worked as well, I currently have 5 baristas that are tracking to being separated in January because of this
Mr-Yoop [OP] 13 points 8m ago
On the surface the policy seems perfectly reasonable, but it’s quickly become problematic for my situation. If you get sick and you don’t have enough sick hours to cover it’s on you to make up those lost hours. Then of course it’s a whole new can of worms if you’re not even being scheduled for those hours in the first place.
