So I’ve been out of Starbucks for a week now.(it’s so much better this way) I went to my store to pick up my last set of tips. Stolen
We keep our tips in a file cabinet in. Folder with our names on it. As opposed to somewhere secure like oh idk our SAFE. the fact that they were stolen and only those were stolen makes me think it was someone who has or does work there but that’s not the point.
I lost a weeks worth of tips. And some partners lost 3 or more weeks worth of tips. With no way of us seeing how much we had. But I really think my manager shat the bed with not keeping our tips in the safe. Is there anything that I can do about this.
(Also the tips have not been kept in the safe for at least 6 months if not more. )

Not getting your tips.is wage theft. The amount of your tips should be on the sign sheet. Your manager should give you a paid out

Not to worry, those tips need to be paid out. It is wage theft if you don't receive them. This is 100% on your manager. Tips should be kept in the safe at all times and removed only when retrieving yours.

They have to be in the safe, it's a security threat to have any money outside the tip jar not locked up. Also I believe it's policy SSVs have to hand you your tips, no one is supposed to be allowed to go through tips unless they're a cash handler. At least that's what my manager said, I haven't read that policy anywhere

Actually you’re able to keep tips outside of they safe as long as they’re properly secured, and only to be accessed by a keyholder. Most stores with 6 tills do this, because the newer safes are so tiny are tips would have no way of fitting.

So you keep the tips in tills? I have like, genuine questions, not in a judgey way, I promise! Because someone at my store asked to do this since we BARELY have room in our safe and have 6 tills but our manager said no for security reasons. Because we have to leave the tills wide open over night to deter theft? So do you just keep the tills locked overnight? Thank you!

OMG no😭 we lock them in a locker lollll

OH I get it now, stores with 6 tills have less room in the safe lmaoooo i'm dumb, I was reading it as y'all have 6 tills and don't need that many so you leave one in the safe and put tips in the till, influenced by my coworker asking that, goddd lmaoooo
I'm gonna ask my manager about a locker but I don't think we have room for that either, my store sucks. Thank you for the reply though!!!

At my store, we have a small lockbox that's just for tips. It lives on a shelf under our registers, next to the safe. That way it is still covered by the security camera, but not taking up room in the safe.

Like others are saying, they still owe you the tips. If I ordered a drink at the drive thru then someone robbed me, before i got my drink, I wouldn’t go to the window and be able to demand I get my drink for free. The money was in the store’s possession when it was stolen, so the store needs to pay.

Tips were never kept in the safe at our stores, they’ve always just been in a folder next to the safe
