This how I feel telling the customers it’s gonna ask them for tips at the drive thru(i.redd.it)

Hold the card reader out to them "It's gonna ask you a question before processing your payment". If you are wanting to drive up tips smile and make eye contact to guilt them into tipping. If you are too anxious for that. As you hold it out turn your head that you are tapping away at the screen as the process the payment. Then re-engage after you hear the beep.

i turn my head away cuz it’s awkward lmao
Sequential-River74 points8m ago
I look down at the screen to see what they're pressing because I need to feel something.
KaoriLikesWatari31 points8m ago
This person definitely jay walks 😭😭
drpprbitch9 points8m ago
LMFAO
Werten32 [OP]1 points7m ago
I can’t do this because if I do they will just keep trying to tap their card until I go “sorry it’s asking you about a tip” but when I turn away they actually fucking look at it
Mkhillvgc126 points8m ago
And a special thank you to Starbucks for making my already awkward drive through experience more unbearable for both parties
clouds18365 points8m ago
i mean yeah with sbux not paying a living wage I use my tips as food money
Werten32 [OP]29 points8m ago
Absolutely I’m glad to get more tips I just feel so awkward asking the guy who bought a tall pike to give me money.
mondrianna4 points8m ago
Just let em know that “no thank you” is a perfectly acceptable choice. I do that by default but even still I’ve had someone complain that it still guilts them into tipping just because the screen gives them the option to tip
satisfiedjelly3 points8m ago
Don’t feel bad it’s the norm at other coffee shops to tip on every transaction
fredforthered3 points8m ago
I’m surprised it took so long. You can tip through the app, which I forget a lot because it’s after checking out. If it was in my face, you bet your bippy I’d remember to tip. It’s normal at this point, so don’t feel weird. You’re receiving extra compensation for a service you provided well. I know you wish you could charge 1 pump,140f nonfat WCM more, lol.

I wonder if the preset tip options are really gonna be $1, $3, and $5
Werten32 [OP]18 points8m ago
That’s what they are at my store
-zombie-squirrel15 points8m ago
Mine is 1, 2 and 5, but we have had people also write in as much as 10 or 20 bucks!!
Werten32 [OP]1 points7m ago
Damn you got some oil barons at your store or something cause best we get is $5😭😭
-zombie-squirrel1 points7m ago
We get a lot of doctors but a lot of old ladies too. I think the tips will decrease a bit after the newness wears off
Audreyy11729 points8m ago
It still hasn’t hit my store yet :(
iiiimagery8 points8m ago
It's terribly inefficient.
Imaginarybluntallday4 points8m ago
Mine too! Had to put in a ticket this morning. All partners were not too happy about it…
Overseareassure24416 points8m ago
\*Lots of headpats and hugs\*You‘re so fucking amazing and strong, and you deserve all of the love and validation in the world!
Solid_Scientist_135410 points8m ago

when howie sees this comment 👁️👄👁️
Short_51147 points8m ago
There’s no need to be shy… they’re not shy when they ask for a triple half caf 137 degree upside down latte with mocha drizzle at the bottom of the cup & cold foam on top :p
It’s more money in your pocket just be sweet and be grateful. It’s actually more normalized than you think. Credit card tips is what we’ve ALL been waiting for.
sydhasknees7 points8m ago
it’s actually embarrassing i feel so desperate 😭😭
Garrickrelentless5 points8m ago
We should lobby to make the presets "round up" "$1" or "$5." We'd get so much more.
BatWeary3 points8m ago
my store doesn’t have this yet & im lowkey dreading the day we do. i’ll explain if they ask but otherwise i won’t speak a word about it. it makes me feel like a beggar to talk about tips w customers. i’m thankful for the option since it’ll likely give us more tips, but i’m not asking *for* them.
maybe i’m just dramatic and it’s only me who feels this way 🧍♀️
renjaminbutton3 points8m ago
We got it when they first rolled it out. All I say is “alright, we have a bit of a new system for cards, if you’ll just answer the question and then it’ll charge you” that way I don’t feel weird asking for tips but I get the point across that they have to answer and then do the card themselves now.
HanatabaRose2 points8m ago
you guys are getting card tips???
icedcoffeenoclassic1 points8m ago
FACTS.

"Alms for an ex-leper?" Couldn't help myself. It'd be a way to make it fun, if the customer gets the reference, of course.
EliMinivan1 points8m ago
At least your pinpad asks for tips, my store does cash tips only
billwood091 points8m ago
New PIN pads?
bigfatincel1 points8m ago
I always tip as I feel so sorry for all the poor souls working at Starbucks.
strwbryheart1 points8m ago
same; i escaped the siren’s iron grip a little over a year ago so i always make sure to tip baristas.
