Out of curiosity, how many other partners have developed some sort of health problems since working at Starbucks?()

Carpal Tunnel-esque symptoms seem to be very common with employees. Also common is back/leg pain from standing all day.
If you consider the state of the world right now, think about the number of employees who got covid from work. Then consider the number of people who likely have Long Covid from their covid infection(s)... I imagine that count is probably higher than it should be...

Ooh I will say I have pretty chronic back pain and shoulder tension, although my posture wasn’t great to start with and I had lower back issues and flat feet prior to starting
PortionOfSunshine1 points7m ago
Not me with my wrist pain that comes and goes after 3 years 🙃
badbaristuh32 points8m ago
I got eczema from all of the chemicals lol!!!!
hollsberry15 points8m ago
My eczema is terrible from the sani!! Rinsing my hands with water after touching sani and constant glove usage is the only think that helps.
badbaristuh8 points8m ago
I tried this, and lotion, and more. The only thing that cured it was quitting. I’ve had no sign of eczema in 4 months. Curious how that works.

I'm so curious as to whether anyone else here has had the experience of having to be extra careful w the dishes because of new tattoos on their arms. Thankfully nothing happened and they healed normally but I'm just wondering if anyone else has been in the same boat and if so has had side effects lol
brokenleftjoycon29 points8m ago
I used to get intense neck/back pain from the holiday sauce pumps.
Starbucks also killed my mental health too and impacted my ability to do tasks outside of work, such as cleaning.

Didn’t know that others had stomach issues but I’ve had pretty severe ovarian cysts that rupture when I’m on the clock about 80% of the time. It’s a huge problem and I’m not sure it’s related but not silly little autistic brain and food allergy won’t let me eat but 4 things on the menu 🥴🧍🏼

carpal tunnel:/
lanastan4everlolz9 points8m ago
This job causes harm in every way possible to everybody istg. I honestly believe that every single partner will have some sort of lasting negative affect from this job, whether it’s mentally, physically, or emotionally.
Personally, I’ve always had a bad back but this job has made it worse. I also saw people talking about carpal tunnel in the comments so I went to look it up and it sounds very similar to what I’ve been experiencing. I also only started getting eczema once I started working here, and it’s only on my hands.
Mind you, I’m only 17. There’s no reason for these things to just ~happen~.
lilmissambersue9 points8m ago
Yikes.... I was wondering this as well. We had mold at our store that they supposedly got rid of. But we all get sick way too often and I have started to suspect maybe there is still mold we are breathing in.
hollsberry8 points8m ago
Yes. Chronic stress and sleep deprivation really messed with my immune system. Most of the food is low fiber and most drinks are super acidic. I can’t eat or drink most things anymore, because I was throwing up at work.
Now, I also have missed about half of my periods the last 6 months from stress (no risk of pregnancy) and caught Covid bad. I just transferred to a new store that should be less chaotic and without nasty coworkers. I almost broke down and quit multiple times but I only have 4 semesters left at ASU and have worked at the bux for 4.5 years so at this point another year and a half (with summer classes) means nothing
caulicarter6 points8m ago
Lol I’m getting blood work done today because I’ve been weak achy and very nauseous the last year. I’ve been at Starbucks for 2
n2bxl2 points7m ago
i just started feeling this way last weekend oh no
yikes-wazowski6 points8m ago
wait, i had to get my gallbladder removed like, a few months after coming back to starbucks. my stomach had been hurting for a few days and apparently my gallbladder got really infected out of nowhere and i had to leave work halfway through my shift and go to the emergency room. it’s a good thing i did because it was about to burst. the doctors told me they had never seen one so inflamed. who knows, maybe the siren did it.
ladysingtheblues6 points8m ago
Glad I mostly avoided Starbucks food and drinks working there. Killed my shoulder for some reason tho
csaine6 points8m ago
Arm injury/tendonitis
hauxbi5 points8m ago
Back and shoulder pain, leg pain along with varicose veins developed from standing for too long, too much stress, inability to sleep/restless sleep, constant headaches…. you name it. whenever i take long periods of time off all of it disappears and it’s pretty clear i feel super shitty because of work lol
lenna572895 points8m ago
I mean, besides the gaining weight and mental health issues, my body hurts a lot- but especially my heels, hips, back, and wrists. I have a bit of hearing loss in my left ear from the headsets (them being loud and not being cleaned- I actually had ear infections constantly until I transferred to a cafe location). I also have a permanent burn scar from the new ovens. I wasn’t used to how tall they were and accidentally put my arm straight on the door’s plate. I’ve been dealing with stomach issues and acid reflux but I never connected it to Starbucks so I don’t want to give full blame for that one lol
gabby246814 points7m ago
Multiple days long headaches that don’t respond to any treatment. Doctor has no idea lol.
Coffee-Bae3 points7m ago
are we talking other than suicidal-depression?
anyway. plantar fasciitis for sure
linseeded2 points7m ago
My feet will never be the same
shipssiren3 points7m ago
My back and shoulders will never be the same again
mollymccaffrey3 points7m ago
woah!! I had this same problem! No test could figure it out! I had so much pain in my stomach while working and I had blood tests and ultra sounds and nothing was determined. It was so bad I had to take a medical leave. Once I finally quit it all went away. I’m convinced now that it was stress related.
dregonzz3 points7m ago
I developed severe caffeine addiction
nicolelynnejones3 points7m ago
Severe heartburn and bloating from the food
Our cold beverage station is set up too high so I pull my shoulder out of place every frequently bcuz i have to reach so high up at such a fast pace
Rhuhnz3 points8m ago
Ever since working at starbucks I've had these super strange rashes that kinda look like tiny pimples just come and go for months now. Probably an allergic reaction to something in the store but idk what it could be, it doesn't really affect me tho I still feel fine.
Soupysoup73 points8m ago
I never had acne before working at sb, now it’s absolutely terrible and I can’t get rid of it because it’s caused by stress :(
Electrical_Metal_1063 points8m ago
Elbow tendinitis, plantar fasciitis, skin irritation from sanitizer
Sensitive_Damage3633 points8m ago
strained rotator cuff in my shoulder from repeated pumping/scooping motions
[deleted] [OP]3 points8m ago
i had extreme migraines almost every night after work. once i left the migraines stopped..
sunemoji1 points7m ago
I started getting migraines too and cant figure out whats causing them
heyitsmaria243 points8m ago
back pain :/ And constant abdominal pain.
rudebii3 points8m ago
RSI and it’s been a lifelong issue for me. I write for a living and some days my arm hurts so bad I have to take frequent breaks typing. It’s less bad and less frequent thanks to me investing in ergo and learning how to mitigate/cope with the pain.

Crippling work-related anxiety
majik_rose2 points7m ago
Have you been drinking a lot of coffee? Coffee had decently high acidity and long-term high consumption can cause stomach issues. I’ve been working a sbux barista for over a year total and so far haven’t had any issues, however im not a big coffee drinker and I try to opt for the healthier food options like protein boxes and egg bites when I eat from there so that’s probably part of it. Sorry to hear ur having issues op surgery on minimum wage sounds like a nightmare 🙁
Luna_Raccoona2 points7m ago
Thank you :(. Oddly enough I’m not too into Starbucks l coffe me, and I don’t have enough time to get coffee elsewhere very often so I’m not really drinking that much. I also opted for the egg bites (especially the egg white bites since I like the red bell peppers) and the bistro boxes. Lately though, my go-to has been avocado spread on an everything bagel. Still not the best food options, but I don’t have the time to prep meals and bring them to work sadly :(. Anyway, thank you for the concern and response, I appreciate it, and I hope you stay healthy lol :)
Nraveles112 points7m ago
Well I got covid from a dumbass shift who thought it was funny to come in with a store throat, laugh about it, and cough everywhere without covering their mouth.
Other than that I have back issues def and it’s worsened my stutter by like 5x what it used to be
certifiedsnax2 points7m ago
not since working with starbucks, but i could say it got worse with starbucks. i’m currently getting checked on with major recurring stomach issues especially in my gallbladder area so I may or may not have an issue in there. now that a lot of other people are mentioning that it would make a lot of sense that it’s gotten worse since i’ve worked here (almost at the one year mark)
Luna_Raccoona1 points7m ago
I’ve been working at Starbucks for the same amount of time and was just told today by my doctor that I most likely have gallbladder disease/gallstones and am going to need and ultrasound to confirm. It’s likely going to result in surgery for me which is very stressful. Im sorry your going through this too, friend :(
Calm_Preference62092 points7m ago
Schizophrenia, the headset and oven beeps follow me everywhere
friendlySkeletor2 points7m ago
All my pre-existing back, hip, and knee issues have gotten worse and i occasionally get shooting pain going up my arm from my wrist. Part of the problem is everything in my store is too low for me, but especially bar and drive registers, so I'm constantly hunching in awkward positions.
Mikaylard2 points8m ago
I think it’s probably because I went from working out alone in a gas station box to working in the small Starbucks kiosk inside the grocery store but my immune system suddenly sucks and I constantly have a cold 🤧
Midnight_Esctasy1 points7m ago
I’ve had developed early arthritis in my thumb (21 year old) and in one knee bc of doing the Order and drains week in and week out
borrowedurmumsvcard1 points7m ago
insomnia yes lmao
StickyNoteMurdercat1 points7m ago
Probably just an injured wrist once & eczema from the sanitizer which I have to be super careful with as I have a burn scar (ironically got burned before work & yeah I had to miss that shift) where it could get hurt worse if I don’t use Lubriderm since my hands are so used to that now. Other than that I had pre existing conditions going in (a form of FND) and sometimes experienced flare ups ESPECIALLY this summer with the heat literally causing me to overheat & seize (yes happened at work a couple of times) so fun times lol.
dayahorne1 points7m ago
Beside lack of sleep, back pain and knee pain. My hands have 3rd degree burns from the dish water
darkwolf5231 points7m ago
Me having back problems since working for sbuxs
fuckingveganshark1 points7m ago
