Looking for advice on hours! (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by -IzTheWiz-
I'm 16 and I've been with Starbucks since July. I first started working in the summer and hours weren't a problem for me then. Now, practically everyone in my store is getting their hours cut, except for me. I know one of my coworkers, who is only 17, literally got scheduled for 0 hours this week. Meanwhile, I keep getting scheduled to close almost every day. No one in my store likes closing, so no one ever takes my shifts. I'm getting scheduled for 27 hours next week and 28 the week after. I know that I can't keep on top of my schoolwork and my clubs and also work 5 days a week. Almost every weekend I work Saturday 11-7:30 and Sunday the same. I don't know what to do because I'm afraid of getting my hours cut ridiculously as well. How do I bring this up with my SM?

Check the minor laws where you are. Im 17 and I live in New York and I can't be scheduled over 25 hours a week. Bring it up with your manager or your district manager.

Edit: just checked and it's actually 28 hours, so I would just tell your sm that you need less hours, that's all. If they are a reasonable sm then they should listen to you.

According to New Hamsphire minor labor laws : "minors duly enrolled in school may not be employed more than 6 consecutive days , nor more than 30 hours per week during the school calender week (Sunday through Saturday)."

Just talk to your sm and tell them you can't work 27 hours a week. My sm gives me around 10 hours a week.
