Tricks (self.starbucksbaristas)

I think that when management encourages partners to be vulnerable and honest it’s a trick to use whatever information you let them in on against you. I’ve been trying to develop since three managers ago and my current manager started my development but then essentially just ghosted me. He never told me we weren’t going to continue with it until I asked what happened. His reason for that was he thought I had personal things going on.. Doesn’t everyone have things going on? Other than this there have been so many instances to where I feel that I’ve been treated unfairly. What do I do

Yeah, they’re pretty disconnected in that sense. We’re expected to lie and only speak in Starbucks terms to get their attention.

Yup, if you don’t speak the lingo they don’t give you the time of day.

I'm just so surprised there are so many bad sm and dms out there. I have pretty good ones that, yes while we're on good terms, are tough on me when need be.

My old sm was terrible, but I thought they were an exception

The best advice I've been given is to assume, broadly, that the management class (especially in the US) is either incompetent, self serving, or extremely bought into corporate bs, and often all 3.
Starbucks is marginally better than average, but only marginally.

yea, i was asked by a ssv if i'd be interested in getting promoted to shift and she passed the message along to my sm. our sm said she'd have a conversation with me about promoting me, it never happened, and then another barista got promoted to shift. not to mention that in the summer i was supposed to be trained to be a trainer, then got sick and had to take a 2 month LOA (i was hospitalized for mono), and when i came back a different barista was being promoted to trainer. i genuinely feel so slighted that it was never even discussed with me.
