Sooooo at my store whenever a customer orders a nondairy milk that usually comes with wc, we’d put “yes whip” or “ok wc” on ask me just for extra assurance for the barista who’d eventually make the drink.
But I don’t like punching it that way bc i’m lazy to type it in haha so what I’d do is I’d click “no whip” then click whip again so now the sticker would go “add whip”. I got told off tonight bc apparently it would mess with the inventory, my question is, how true is this? In my thinking, it’s not like I’m adding extra whip on the drink, i’m just putting back the whip that I took off.. right?
I don’t wanna bend on this thats why, but if it does actually make a difference in the inventory stuff of things then fine.
EDIT: I went to my manager directly so I can use them as a shield wall when I get “coached” again next time, they told me to do whatever works for me and as some of you have said (TY BTW), the milk count is what matters most when doing the inventory.

We do $70k a week and do the add whip and my SM has never said anything about it messing with inventory. Saves time when the person making the drink doesn’t have to ask if they want whip 😂
cvpocoffee [OP]6 points7m ago
Exactly!!! Cause sometimes they assume that you forgot to ask the customer if they wanted whip if you don’t specify on the sticker that they do in fact want it but I think my SSV meant about how much heavy cream they’d have to order kind of inventory.
dontgiveah00t8 points7m ago
I’m a shift and the milk count at the end of the night/ delivery is more important than that. Plus whip is so cheap as an ingredient, sbux doesn’t charge for it. What’s really hard for inventory is those light ice venti shaken brown sugar espressos with extra oatmilk to the top and not charging! One of those is half a carton of oatmilk lol
cvpocoffee [OP]4 points7m ago
Thank you! I hate a complicated life but I will argue about this. Click of a button over typing it in for sure!!
violaaesthetic12 points7m ago
Our registers do not track our inventory on WHIPPED CREAM for gods sake. Our inventory system can barely keep track of how many heavy creams we have and need, let alone the things we make with it
cvpocoffee [OP]5 points7m ago
Amazing! Thank you! Why my SSV would think so then I don’t know!
apple_low11 points7m ago
Okay sorry I don't have an answer for you but this was an answer for me lmao. I'm one of those who puts 'yes whip' bc I never understood how to do the 'add whip' without the extra step of typing. So thanks for this 😅.
Edit: I will add though the majority at my store do what you do! So it's not unprecedented at least.

I gotchu!!!

Not sure about inventory. But my sm does the add whip abd showed us how and we do it
cvpocoffee [OP]4 points7m ago
Cool! Can I use you as reference the next time it comes up? Imma be like this person on reddit working in x city got showed by their manager this exact trick sooooooo.
I’m sorry, I’m petty 😩

My store is in Ohio and you can

To add my two cents to this: all drinks should be made to standard even when adding non-dairy milks to drinks. If a mobile comes through and has a non-dairy milk and does not say "no whip", whip needs to be added automatically. A standard practice at my store is asking if they want whip on anything non-dairy or nonfat and if they say yes, we don't adjust the ticket to say anything. It shouldn't mess up the inventory either if you continue doing it the way you do it. As someone who was ASM, adding whip never makes a difference since it isn't an item we charge for anyway.
cvpocoffee [OP]1 points7m ago
Ya, no I get it. It used to be like that too, I don’t remember when we started doing it, I think somebody just got annoyed that some baristas would ask them again for confirmation that it was in fact with whip that it has become a standard practice to do what we do. But for MOP, we do it exactly as they punched it in and if there’s an issue, then at least that’s on them.
QueerLemonMeringue1 points7m ago
This is the way.
Affectionate_Fart3 points7m ago
I do add whip because when I’m on bar I usually have someone flagging me down saying “oh I actually didn’t want whip!!!!” And then I have to remake a drink and get lost in my other drinks. -.-
My one shift is incredibly callous and gives me shit for it, but after he straight up screamed at my yesterday he can pound sound.
GhostfaceJK3 points7m ago
i used to type it like that until my ssv showed me the add whip thing. no one’s said anything about either methods
QueerLemonMeringue2 points7m ago
We have the exact opposite problem. I was always trained that the drink comes as the drink comes unless otherwise stated, meaning if they order a PM with almond milk, it gets whip. If they don’t want whip we add ‘no whip’.
smexy_rat071 points7m ago
In training I was taught to do that lol
AndrewFan04081 points7m ago
No, it won't mess up anything in the System. If typing add whip will mess up, so will those people who order Frap with heavy cream or an whole dentist office what heavy cream instead half and half in their pike.
Milk inventory is calculate by doing the milk count.

that’s something we do at my store, p much everyone understands it
Katerade__1 points7m ago
Idk about inventory, no one has said anything to me about it either. I type in the ask me, “whip”for the nondairy drinks and everyone knows what I mean, no ass chewing involved
cvpocoffee [OP]1 points7m ago
That’s what they want me to do, to put it on ask me. But literally that takes 5 seconds to type in as opposed to a click of the button “add whip” but apparently when you do “add whip” it would mess up the inventory (I’m assuming of how much whip cream they would have to order). But people here tells me otherwise and so I’m gonna keep my method of doing it.
