embarrassing but i need some tips(self.starbucksbaristas)

been a partner for 2 years now and like i’m sure all of us have had some weird hiccups along the road however mine is super awkward. I can’t brew a full batch without grounds getting in the urn. the people i’ve trained don’t even have this problem and the people we just brought on for holidays who have been here maybe two weeks are straight chillin. does anyone have any tips whatsoever for how to not be laughed at when you’re up front?

i like to put my filter over the cylinder and then flip it into the basket, it’s easier than pouring it in for me

This is the best and easiest way to do it. Plus, when you put the paper and the grounds in the metal basket, pinch the paper a little bit over the triangular divit thing in the basket so that the filter doesn't collapse in on itself while brewing. Not totally necessary but it adds a little security

I always explain this method to my green beans as “the sock” method!

my advice is tap the shit out of the cylinder on the counter after grinding to get the static out, ensure your filter is optimally aligned, and maybe even shake a little extra beans off the spoodle. best of luck!

Make your scoops of beans really level.

Put your filter on top of the silver grind container like a hat , but like upside down if that makes sense. Then put the basket on top of the first hat as a second hat. Grab the grind canister and flip everything over while pressing the canister against the basket so it doesn’t spill out until you are inverted, i and usually pull it up just a little bit and do a tappy tappy on the sides of the basket with the canister before fully lifting it out of the filter once inverted

Always level the scoop of beans using the cube lid.
Another thing, make sure when you put the filter into the brew basket, that you’re leaving that little triangle on the left side empty. The brewer alternates pouring water over the grinds and into that hole in order to balance the flavor of the coffee.

sometimes the filter falls in i would just double check you have no ripples or anything in the filter when you put it in :D also sometimes it helps to go a lil slow when shoving the basket in! But other than that just making sure it’s level scoops

If i get grounds in the metal filter thing, I grab the paper full of grounds, take it out, lay it somewhere flat, rinse the metal thing, and then reinsert the paper filter. After that I make sure the paper filter is sitting even/level in the metal filter and adjust it if needed. I also make sure the grounds in the paper filter are even. I dont know if any of this helps. I wish you the best of lucl homeslice!

I have a weird muscle memory associated with this. It was scoop, hold the metal cup, tap the cups bottom three times on the counter, pour ground coffee into the filter (already in basket) and then like knock it back and forth against the side of the basket a few times. I don’t know why but I did it the same EVERY TIME.

My store just never brews full batches 😬 We brew half batches to reduce the amount we dump

Tuck the filter in to the brew basket and gently tap the grinds so there are no air pockets
