how would you handle this customer constantly trying to scam us? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by peepeepoopaccount
There is this customer who comes in every now and then and claims that “the other day” he ordered 3 coffees but only received 2. He expects us to give him the 3rd one for free. Today he walked up to me on bar and told me that exact thing - claimed that me, specifically, ring him up for 3 coffees yesterday but he only got 2. I was super confused until my coworker pulled me aside and told me he does this all the time. We told my shift who hasn’t seen him yet (he usually comes when a different shift lead is here and she has stopped giving him free coffees) but she gave him the free coffee today because she said she can’t claim he’s lying yet since she hasn’t personally dealt with him, but next time she can refuse it since she can say “he’s done this multiple times”.

I’m not sure if it could also be considered discrimination to say he’s lying, also because sometimes apparently he will pretend to not know English well (when he speaks pretty clear English when he’s telling us we forgot his coffee) so idk what’s the policy here with customers like this? 😭

Edit: also we always ask him for a receipt and every time he claims he threw it away….. how convenient 😵‍💫

Why would you leave without 3 coffees if you ordered 3...? That makes absolutely no sense.

We had one who would come in every week or so saying a starbucks in another town got hand sanitizer in his coffee.

Pretty much what I was thinking. Like why are you telling me this today? It’s obvious you’re lying.

And yeah idk why people think we’re responsible for other Starbucks…. Someone came in the other day saying the drive thru one nearby made their order wrong. I’m just like “well ok go talk to them then lol”

write down the 1800starbucks number and hand it to him. tell him they'll send him everything he needs to get a free drink.

if they say they called and starbucks couldn't help them - then there is nothing more you can do about it..

you can only call with the same line so many times before they cut you off.

had a person try the line that they felt they deserved free stuff to make up for whatever, and they had to say they don't feel like they should HAVE to call them... which means they called it too many times and their luck ran out on it.

Apparently it’s a common type of scam. I saw this post not too long ago.

*Go to the back for 5 minutes and start clicking on the computer*

“We checked the cameras just now and saw that they did pass you out three coffees.”

*Make this face 😐 until he leaves*

Edit: if he tries to play the I don’t know English game, pull up google translate and make the same face until he leaves.
