I was 2 minutes late to my shift and my manager gave me a final warning 😐(self.starbucksbaristas)

Damn yea ive heard of some managers going by "1 minute late is still late" and then ive heard that other people have managers that dont do anything if its 1 to 3 minutes late here and there. My manager is ok with people running a few minutes late once in a while as long as its not a habit and as long as the person doesnt call out much. Is there anything else or another reason behind the reasoning for the final warning?
Bulletrayflower [OP]92 points7m ago
Also I have been making my district manager aware of her favoritism lately and her letting bullying go unnoticed so that maybe why but that is also retaliation.
tourniquette256 points7m ago
Contact corporate. This is retaliation and an ethics violation should be reported.
Few_Conclusion_882424 points7m ago
I can speak from experience they will not help you. They will tell you they will speak to her they will not tell you what was said or what action has or hasn’t been taken. My DM kept up her shitty behavior even after getting reported. They are only there to give the impression of being supportive
tourniquette25 points7m ago
Then contact legal for arbitration. There’s always a next step.
haleslyons4 points7m ago
This. This, this, this. Speaking from experience, ethics will definitely help on that favoritism issue.
Pickle-Chunk-6 points7m ago
How many times have you been late? Even 2 minutes?
There’s a five minute window we used, you’re not “late” until after that
Bulletrayflower [OP]25 points7m ago
I’m an opener so my clock in time depends on the shift lead opening the doors honestly.

The 5 minute grace period isn’t a real thing. The time clock doesn’t tell you youre late unless its past 5 minutes but it doesn’t mean anything. Especially if you have a manager that considered all cases of not being clocked in at your scheduled start time as late.
Pickle-Chunk-17 points7m ago
Did you see where I said we used?
Or choose not to?
Bulletrayflower [OP]17 points7m ago
I did get a write up in march 2022 for calling out, it has been over 6 months since I’ve called out without due reason such as medical note so I do not know why she is continuously threatening me with firing me. I was going research and I’ve come to discover that her behavior is actually illegal! As she is threatening me by the tone of her voice and word choices!!! So I’m going to talk to my district manager and call partner resources to report her
noccybutter13 points7m ago
Document and report to ethics. A simple way to document is to send an email to yourself with as much detailed (dates, times, occurrence) information as possible. If you’re comfortable with it, send a copy of that to your DM.
call ethics and claim retaliation. Having a paper trail can help with lawsuits if it ever goes that far.
But don’t forget to document!

Can you transfer ?

I got a documented coaching for being one minute late on multiple occasions, kinda sucks because our tablets take a little while longer to load and I don’t like sitting there babysitting the tablet so I’ll write it in the book so I don’t get written up, then I got talked to about writing in the book too much. So idk it’s weird, this is the first store I’ve worked at that one minute late is a problem
FrustratingBears34 points7m ago
me, on time but having to wait 3 minutes for the tablet to do its glitching out thing: 😐
for real though i have found that it helps to completely close the time clock app before even trying to use it
seefelix6 points7m ago
Just write in the book and write “su” it’s more work for the manager and if they say something just say you didn’t want to be late and you were here on time
MarkedByFerocity52 points7m ago
Your workplace sounds incredibly toxic.
Bulletrayflower [OP]18 points7m ago
Yea definitely, even just watching the behavior of all the shifts, no reasons shifts should be afraid to tell their manager what’s wrong.
pastelldillann45 points7m ago
I had some reddit user on here a couple weeks ago tell me that I was lazy for being upset when my supervisors called after like one or two minutes. It’s just obnoxious. Five minutes late or more obviously that’s different, but two minutes late?? Fuck right off.
Bulletrayflower [OP]13 points7m ago
So true, so annoying. My manager is hardly ever at store and even the shifts have complained that she’s the problem.
Ordinary-Economist-724 points7m ago
My manager told us shifts the system doesn't even alert her that someone clocks in late unless it's 6 minutes past their start time
erikaasairaaa8 points7m ago
Same. When I first got hired on I asked this because at my previous job we had a 9 minute grace period and I know other jobs give a 15 minute grace period
verdeuce2 points7m ago
There is no grace period here
themugglebookworm15 points7m ago
I had a supervisor come at me once because I walked on the floor at 6:01, and she said "you need to be on the floor at your start time." 🙄 And I said "No, I clock in at my start time and then I walk out to the floor. The clock in system doesn't always load the first time you try it....or the second." I dont understand being pressed about 60 seconds.
Nraveles117 points7m ago
Nah I understand. I clock in when I get there. I’m getting paid to do anything work related ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
themugglebookworm8 points7m ago
Except for we were also told not to clock in until our scheduled time 🙃
mossygreentree133 points7m ago
same i clock in before i put on my apron. It’s work. I wouldn’t be putting my apron on if i weren’t here and it’s part of my job to wear the apron so i clock on before going in the back and THEN i come out. Not my fault we’re told not to clock in before our shift starts, so i clock in at my scheduled time, put my apron on and then go out onto the floor.
Top-Comparison24887 points7m ago
I just got a corrective action for this & I’ve been at the store for about a month. I’ve worked at two different stores in two different states that never cared as long as you showed up for your shift. You’d think with how troubled Starbucks is with staffing and as a company in general they’d be a little more lax, beings most partners are in school. It’s a coffee shop, not the marine corps. Good god.

londom_014 points7m ago
damn i feel bad for you. im an opener and im consistently clocking in like 3-4 minutes late. i also never call off so idk if that has anything to do w that. u should just transfer stores if thats an option for you because ur sm sounds terrible.
Bulletrayflower [OP]1 points7m ago
So I called out sick today and then I got a doctors note because I knew my manager would say something. Should I text her now and tell her I have a doctors note and ask for a transfer via text message?
londom_011 points7m ago
i wouldn’t ask for a transfer via text. personally i would find a store or two you would like to work at and try to speak to their sm. i would come up with some bs excuse like it’s closer to my house and see if they can take on another partner. try to then talk to your sm in person if you can :)
gabby246814 points7m ago
Isn’t there like a company rule for five minutes is fine?
RosieHarlan9 points7m ago
No, the 5 minutes grace period doesn’t exist. You get flagged after 5 minutes but managers can still check the start times regardless and not being clocked in at your scheduled start time is being late.
Nraveles1110 points7m ago
That’s so stupid. I’ve never been to a job that doesn’t have any grace period
RosieHarlan5 points7m ago
Some managers dont bother manually checking but I know a lot of them are cracking down on time and attendance issues. You cant write up one person for being 8 minutes late and not the other for being 5 minutes late since they’re both late.
otterpopemo1 points7m ago
That’s exactly the reason.
hi-im-madi3 points7m ago
bruh, i come in 10 minutes late sometimes (my mom is my ride and she is late everywhere) and they do not care at all. probably cause it’s usually slow, we don’t do mobile orders or have a drive thru..
nakedavocado3 points7m ago
The time clock says "punch accepted" 5 minutes early to 5 minutes late. If over 5 minutes, the clock says "in late for coverage." So to me this means you have a 5 minute grace period on your shift and it's wrong for management to do any corrective action unless it is found that there is repeated abuse of the grace period. I've worked at two stores and have never been talked to about being late unless it was 5+ minutes (which honestly happened more than once because I lived in the heart of a major city.) and even then it was pretty much just "hey is everything okay we noticed you're having trouble getting here on time"
Hazel_is_Trans3 points7m ago
I got a final for a drive thought time of 55s during peak
Hazel_is_Trans2 points7m ago
Our goal for the day was 50s
Dollah_Short3 points7m ago
With all the trouble hiring and retaining people in food service, I really don’t understand a manger being such a hard ass about a few minutes. Just stay a few minutes late to make up for it. What’s the problem?
Top-Comparison24883 points7m ago
The funny thing is that we typically do stay a few minutes past on all occasions, or we are asked to stay late, orrr our shift leads don’t give us breaks at the correct times. It’s fun game we play here at Starbucks as lowly baristas lol.
tricializ12 points7m ago
One,two minutes etc. is a little petty, but being on time for work means being on the floor ready to go at the assigned time. Not walking in the door, taking coat off, putting apron on, saying hi etc.
snottymilk2 points7m ago
when i had worked at starbucks, i got a similar talking to for being 2 minutes late and my manager said she expected everyone be 5 minute early bc otherwise they’re late. fucking delusional.
Question_Candid2 points7m ago
Late is late. And they didn’t give you a final for 2 min. You got yourself on your last warning. Take responsibility and understand what you need to do to be a better partner. Clock in on time. Leave your house 5 min earlier and you won’t have an issue.
Unvarying4 points7m ago
Loser
dangerfruitt3 points7m ago
how does that boot taste?
juju4832 points7m ago
But then they also have an issue with you clocking in even a few minutes early 🙄
maniacworld1 points7m ago
Oh no sweetie just call HR, they can also help u with transferring if it’s a very toxic environment

Sounds like being Fired is very possible at this point.
spicedtear0 points7m ago
My favorite part of this thread is OP blocking anyone that calls them out for being in the wrong. Watched it in front of my eyes lol
Bulletrayflower [OP]7 points7m ago
I did because she makes it seem like I am purposely late everyday and I am not. I come everyday on time and all the morning partners have got talked to and told the SSV will be held up to standard with times. It’s annoying and I don’t have to keep reading it, which is why I blocked her. That’s my choice on the platform I posted on.
This being my last post on this topic as I was only posting what happened to me, not asking for advice in my post at all.
So thanks everyone for the comments and questions and advice, it’s all appreciated!!
spicedtear1 points7m ago
Fair enough, but remember that as an adult, when you post even if you’re not asking for advice, you are putting your situation in the public realm for people to comment on.
Nraveles1112 points7m ago
And that’s why you block the idiots who think they know your situation better than you do lol
trashedchai3 points7m ago
i usually just lurk, but this part was really funny
gleeful1-4 points7m ago
You can punch in up to 5 minutes past your scheduled time and not be late. You are late if you punch in 6 or more minutes past your scheduled time. This is Sbux standard.
RosieHarlan10 points7m ago
That’s a myth. You dont get flagged in the system until after 5 minutes but if your SM is cracking down on time and attendance they can manually check the start times and write people up because clocking in after your scheduled start time is being late.
