It is technologically possible bc there’s an aux cord. Whether your manager will allow it is another question entirely.

My store has gotten more strict on partners plugging in their music but there is a music app on the ipad that allows you to at least change the "station"/playlist. Some are quite decent, especially the 80s and 90s ones! I can't listen to "Take me hoooooome country rooooads" one more fucking time!!!

I love changing the station, then the app just changing back after a couple songs. So irritating.

I love the coffee house pop because it has some EDM on it.

Country Roads is my jam 😂. I’ve been really into the jazz vocals lately.

my sm honestly lets us lmao. technically not standard but someone bought a store iphone to aux connector. idk if links are allowed here but i have a looooong clean playlist i'm willing to share! my dm is rather chill about it too but it mostly depends on the strictness of ur sm and dm. just make sure it's clean if they allow it ofc.

once i plugged in the aux and WAP played loudly through the lobby

same thing has happened to me with nine inch nails closer, and on another occasion cupcakke cpr (luckily we were closed) scariest few seconds of my LIFE. i always switch to my playlist and clear my queue before plugging in now lmao.

A night shift at my store brings their own portable speaker
mangotangoafterdark 11 points 7m ago
it depends how chill your sm is but get a bluetooth speaker. that’s what we do

There’s an aux in on the sound system, but be VERY careful about what you play and who is in the store. Some SMs won’t let even let partners pick the station playing on the store music app, much less plug anything else into the system. Others don’t care or even encourage their partners to. If you do while there are customers in the lobby, make sure whatever you’re playing is ‘family friendly,’ (no swearing, adult themes, etc). At my store it only happens very occasionally, mostly when the ASM is there are it’s a slow close. Back I’m my delivery days we’d plug a phone in the second we closed. We also HAD TO listen to ‘The Gambler’ by Kenny Rodgers first, it’s a tradition now lol.

its a legal thing. you don’t have the licenses to play those songs publicly so no.
socalsailor027 5 points 7m ago
Yes the box on the back that you use to adjust volume has an Aux cord going into it just unplug that and plug it into whatever device u please
turpentinetears 4 points 7m ago
I just wish the playlists were curated better or there were more options. If I work an 8 hour shift I will hear the same song 3 times over haha it’s torture.
Jewicer 3 points 7m ago
we were only ever allowed to do this when the cafes were closed bc of covid
Gimmecoffee2020 3 points 7m ago
Keep in mind if anything ever happens to your music receiver, they can watch the video and see you tampering with it.
LegendBourbaki 2 points 7m ago
What i did is get a Bluetooth transmitter they have them at Walmart for 10 bucks and plugged it into the aux cord and now you can change the song from your phone wherever you are
itsnnotdamiann 2 points 7m ago
Everyone saying it’s based on how chill your SM is, at my store corporate barely ever comes in at all but we only do it when our SM isn’t there. All of the SSVs are cool with it because the SM tells them if they’re coming in and we are very careful of the playlist choices. Another helpful tip is if you’re using Spotify you can go into the app settings and turn explicit music completely off, it’s not perfect but it does help.
Brgnbo 2 points 7m ago
Ours let’s us use the aux as long as the music is appropriate. We all make our own little Starbucks playlists that are approved

okay.. apparently my store doesnt have an aux 🥲
BlackWunWun 1 points 7m ago
Basically what everybody else has said there is an aux cord for the player but using it depends on how chill your SM is. Also on the off chance you do manage it use discretion on the music you end up playing. Trust me this will save you trouble in the long run.

After close sometimes I let the beans hook up an AUX cord
lilligremlin 1 points 7m ago
It’s possible, but it’s something that a business can get in a lot of trouble for. When my dad had a restaurant, some people came by in secret, acted as a customer, and we got reported for playing music we were not licensed to play. Unlikely to happen though. Probably worth the risk.
