Taking Back Food? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by lizzygr2ntt
A customer wanted her muffin warmed and I told her I’d grab her another one, believing that we are not allowed to take food back from customers. My coworker told me I was wrong and grabbed it from the customer after I already told her to keep it. What is the right way to go about this in the future? Is it okay to take back an item to alter it? I felt so embarrassed lol

heat up a new one yes. but if they’re being a bitch about it I’ll take back the old one and throw it away right in front of them.

yeah, you were in the right. don’t take back a food item from a customer to warm it.

extreme example, but one time I had a high schooler say they didn’t want their sandwich warmed, then come back five minutes later and say they changed their mind, could we warm it up after all… after they had taken a bite out of it 🙃

Make it right. Safer, cleaner, and better to heat up the new one.

Nope. You were 100% correct.

I like to explain it like this: Once the product passes the counter, it is considered contaminated. You can throw away contaminated food/drink but it should never touch your equipment. You did the right thing!
