First pay mailed as cheque instead of direct deposit?(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by lightweight1979
Just wondering if this is normal or if it’s something we should talk to the manager about. My son just worked his first two full weeks of training and when he didn’t get his direct deposit we just assumed that it just haven’t been properly set up yet but then we got a check in the mail today. Is it normal for the first pay to come as a check? Even if he’s already given them all of the information for his direct deposit?

It can take one pay cycle for the direct deposit to be active. Especially if he didn’t get the information out in until after payroll was processed. I would double check on partner central that the information listed is correct but I wouldn’t be concerned unless next pay cycle comes on a paper check as well!

I would say not normal, no. Have him touch base with his manager to figure out if there was an issue with the Direct Deposit stuff

Thanks! He has a shift with her this week so can check in then.

It's seems since the end of last summer that all new partners received their first couple paychecks by mail instead of direct deposit. Onboarding got weird

This didn't happen to me when I started at starbucks but it has at previous jobs when the direct deposit didn't process in time. Probably not anything to be worried about but it doesn't hurt to check with the manager to be sure.

It is normal. It takes a cycle or two for your direct deposit to kick in. Double check that his info is actually in though. Mine wasn't so it took 3 pay cycles to get paid by cheque because it takes longer to get it to Canada.

We are in Canada too so it was for the pay period ending 11/13 which was his first week.
We did see two things on his paystub that we didn’t recognize at all maybe you could help instead of asking his manager or calling the number?
There was CanDigTP and a Sick and Family Care Benefits balance (I’m assuming a banked sick leave?). There weren’t many deductions since he is only 17 and maybe some benefits he wouldn’t be eligible for yet but can expect to see later?

I'm not sure about the CANDigTP but the Family care is banked sick days. I've been here almost 6 months and the number hasn't increased past 5 yet.

The first one is digital tips. So tips from the app and credit card if they have that option

Lol pretty sure that’s what his is at…maybe you only get 5 per year. I wonder if there’s anything attached to it (like a doctors note) because I would assume if he was sick he would just find somebody to cover his hours and not get paid. I guess we will find out if that happens 🤷🏻♀️
