Guess who got written up for yawning on the floor 🤡 (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by thefrenchtoastfiend
And what makes this even better is the guy who complained about me to the manager is late 5-15 minutes every day, is rude to most partners (especially me 🙄), and has gotten multiple complaints from parters about his behaviour.

But the manager won't do anything because he likes him too much.

I... that's so stupid. What was their justification? Yawning can't be against the rules.
thefrenchtoastfiend [OP] 112 points 7m ago
I'm disrupting customers and making my manager look bad by yawning on the floor
Ceramicusedbook 181 points 7m ago
Call PCC. That can't be allowed.
Electrical_Metal_106 57 points 7m ago
I would call the DM, the RD or anyone that would listen. A yawn is a biological function-how can you help it? I’m sorry you are being treated this way.
Responsible_Snow7109 25 points 7m ago
They dont want us partners to show that we are human. So always keep the negative stuff of ur life out of work and always have a smile on no matter what, do whatever the customer wants and...no yawning......all like good little coffee making robots 🙄 it really gets under my skin how they dont want us to show that were human in any way..just a programmed coffee bot
thefrenchtoastfiend [OP] 105 points 7m ago
and this is the same store where I had a shift supervisor complain that I go to the washroom too often (once every 2 hours for ~2 minutes), I mean it's almost like this is a coffee shop and we get free beverages
canidieyet_ 67 points 7m ago
tbh even if it wasn’t because of the free beverages—nobody should go 8 hours without using the bathroom wtf
Puzzleheaded_You2601 14 points 7m ago
I often have too since I work in a high volume store and their is almost always a line for the bathroom. It’s definitely not healthy though.

A partner reported you for yawning? What a loser. I hope other partners know how much of a petty rat that person is. Hope that manager loses their job too.
QuothTheRaven-Yikes 26 points 7m ago
Wait if you can get written up for that, can my manager get written up for stepping in during peak to make his own food and then bouncing out while we floundered? Oh no wait it's only the low ranking people that get screwed right got it.
rensoar 26 points 7m ago
yawning certainly isn't. what did they put for the justification/category on that? def call partner resources (or whatever our hr equiv is called) about it.

I’m on medication that makes me yawn. I’d be scared to work at your store.
TheRealValpal 3 points 7m ago
I know your struggle, friend. Even a few years off those meds I have increased yawning now. I mean I'm always tired anyways, now I just show it more often lol
legoshis 1 points 7m ago
i have multiple vitamin deficiencies that make me so exhausted i yawn… *repeatedly* on the floor. no one says shit to me lol
anitasdoodles 16 points 7m ago
I would absolutely not sign that write up.
darkwolf523 2 points 7m ago
Same.
Affectionate-Raise21 13 points 7m ago
that would make me so mad if that happened to me. i take a medication that makes me yawn uncontrollably (escitalopram and citalopram both do it to me)
thefrenchtoastfiend [OP] 12 points 7m ago
hmm I take escitalopram
Affectionate-Raise21 7 points 7m ago
i think it’s a rare side effect, my mom had that side effect too. they’re annoying, and super unfulfilling
nicolelynnejones 5 points 7m ago
Even if it’s not a side effect of your medication, you can’t help yawning. It’s a natural instinct to being tired. That’s like writing you up for getting the hiccups or something.
Vallion04 3 points 7m ago
Wait maybe me taking escitalopram is what’s causing my yawning, I noticed I started doing it a lot when I first took the medication
Affectionate-Raise21 1 points 7m ago
big thing with it is they’re unfulfilling, idk how to explain it but it’s like those yawns that get interrupted so u gotta do it again. it’s a very odd side effect
chinksauces 10 points 7m ago
please tell me you didn’t sign anything
thefrenchtoastfiend [OP] 20 points 7m ago
i signed the write up form. i didnt know what to do and my manager was rushing me 😭
chinksauces 39 points 7m ago
bruhhhh

call pcc

that literally is the most fucked up thing I’ve ever seen someone get wittten up for
Radioaactive 33 points 7m ago
You can always tell them you signed it under duress as well to invalidate it, I believe. You felt pressured by your manager to sign something you weren't comfortable signing.
gingergal-n-dog 15 points 7m ago
You can always decline to sign. Any form at any job.
thefrenchtoastfiend [OP] 11 points 7m ago
i didnt know, my manager said sign this I need to leave, so i did 😅
simplyelegant87 12 points 7m ago
Just because you sign doesn’t mean you agree. Just that you acknowledge the existence of this document. Still better not to sign though if something like this happens again.
lewabwee 1 points 7m ago
You don’t have to feel like you shouldn’t have signed it. Signing it doesn’t have any impact one way or another on whether or not you’re written up. Obviously, if it did that would be pretty unsustainable for Starbucks.
Icky138 7 points 7m ago
yawning can be a symptom of more than just fatigue though?
Puzzleheaded_You2601 6 points 7m ago
My toxic trait is that I would yawn even more just to be petty
thefrenchtoastfiend [OP] 4 points 7m ago
I'll get fired if i do 😭
darkwolf523 1 points 7m ago
I’m too petty. I’ll do the same
Alefur 6 points 7m ago
Bruh what the fuck.
Absolutely not, agreed call PCC and explain that you signed it under pressure from your shift that's some absolute nonsense.
DreyaNova 4 points 7m ago
HOW DARE YOU PERFORM AND INVOLUNTARY BODILY FUNCTION AT YOUR MINIMUM WAGE JOB’
Luxia_Knight 4 points 7m ago

Yeah that’s wack
All DCs CAs and FWWs need approval by DM. They also need the exact policy you broke and where you can find that policy. You should also have a copy of the form as well that has everyone’s signatures on it. If any of these steps is broken that’s a major problem and your SM should be written up. If you make a complaint to ethics and compliance about favoritism they WILL follow up and investigate SMs behavior with all store partners.
It sounds like you are upset about this and I would be too so if you want to you should def take action. I am an ASM so i am going through learning all this stuff rn. I definitely don’t want to end up being a manager that my team talks about on Reddit lol
thefrenchtoastfiend [OP] 4 points 7m ago
thanks for the advice!
BlackWunWun 3 points 7m ago
Yawning? YAWNING?! Of all the things that he could be a snitch bitch about he decided that yawning( a basic ass human function) as the tipping point?! This dude is the definition of bitch made
HarleySpicedLatte 3 points 7m ago
That's not allowed. Did you take a picture
buddhacroissant 2 points 7m ago
not necessarily playing devils advocate but I feel like there’s more to it. sorry that happened to you
thefrenchtoastfiend [OP] 1 points 7m ago
not much else happened, my manager gave me a warning a few weeks ago to stop yawning on the floor and I have been trying but my medication makes me drowsy so it's hard.
witcheselementality 2 points 7m ago
Not as bad, but similarly, yesterday a customer didn't want me to make their drink because I yawned and didn't immediately wash my hands afterwards. They wanted someone else to come wash their hands, get a new cup and make their drink instead
jeonzelink 2 points 7m ago
so we not allowed to yawn now
bigheftyhooker 1 points 7m ago
Unless you’re trying to get promoted, I wouldn’t worry about write ups. It’s doesn’t feel nice and I get that but a write up is a bluff at this point. They won’t fire people who could claim unemployment and hiring has been an issue across the country.

Look at the sales every day. That’s what baristas and shifts bring to the table. You have leverage 😊
