Are joggers/sweatpants part of dress code now? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by sh3nan1gans_
Okay so my store is getting renovated currently so I’ve been working at two different locations, the partners have been wearing sweatpants/joggers, and both managers at these locations said it’s okay as long as they don’t look like “too baggy”
Is this true? I don’t remember this being part of the update back in August

No they are still not allowed. Managers can make the decision though, if they want to allow partners to wear whatever because they’re the ones who will take the blame for it. We had a store in my district where the manager would let the girls wear leggings — one partner complained to the DM and the manager got in trouble for allowing and encouraging partners to break dress code. At a dif store the manager there allowed girls to have their nails done. Another SM came through the drive thru once and I assume they told the DM. The SM there was chewed out later for not following dress code.

What kind of loser-ass partner goes to the DM to complain about dress code not being followed?!
oryxii 20 points 7m ago
Lol it was someone who was kind of a kiss ass and was trying to move up. So I think that’s why they snitched.

Weird!! I asked my own store manager and she said no. But I guess everyone does stuff differently. Our DM was in today at the store I’m at now for the Reno and she didn’t seem to care about the other girls wearing them but I just wanted to get clarification
oryxii 15 points 7m ago
Yeah I think at the end of the day, it’s down to the store manager and whether the DM cares or not. In my experience, DMs have always cracked down on nails and sweats/leggings so I’m surprised the DM didn’t care! I would just follow whatever your SM says.
HarleySpicedLatte 12 points 7m ago
The nails are a health code violation.
anolamadie 1 points 7m ago
Not a health code violation if gloves are worn, at least according to my SSV food safety training. Starbucks just goes above and beyond by asking workers to not have their nails done at all.
coconutncracka 0 points 7m ago
they definitely are, but lots of SMs don’t care & there are a handful of DMs who are lenient about it, but they’ll crack down on it if it gets out of hand
Jabuetow 15 points 7m ago
We can wear jeggings though! Which is exciting.
Lcolecrochet 8 points 7m ago
All I wear on the floor pants-wise are stretchy jeggings haha the look of jeans the comfort of leggings. They’re a beautiful thing.
Jabuetow 9 points 7m ago
I've ripped too many jeans dropping it low on the floor so the stretchier the better.
Lcolecrochet 1 points 7m ago
SAME. I love my jeggings because anytime someone asks me if my pants give me room to move I simply start doing squats in front of them xD
TarantulaTeeth13 3 points 7m ago
I'm so happy they actually allow jeggings in dress code now!
beaudebonair 13 points 7m ago
You'd think as liberal as Starbucks is they'd let you at least wear joggers. Some joggers I own look almost exactly like dress pants and chinos. Interesting topic.
MasterMischievous -2 points 7m ago
Well some joggers look like that, other joggers look extremely unprofessional. Making our crew look like a sorry-looking squad of homeless kids.
PluralPaul 2 points 7m ago
I'd say that if the joggers someone owns could pass as normal pants if they didn't have the cuff, they should be fine. The line is drawn when it's specifically sweatpant material or "sport" materials. It's always good to bring a picture to your manager or test them out the day they work so you can see where they'll crack down, and what their lines are
beaudebonair 2 points 7m ago
Ya the joggers I was describing I own are like dress pant material like soft and flowy ya know spandexy/satiny sorta but stretchy and not tight, if that makes sense lol. Some are pinstriped. I worn mine in my office environment with my current employer, but then again we don't have anything written in our dress code against joggers....yet lol.

There's always that one person who can kill it for everyone who uses the worst judgment lol ugh...but Starbucks really wants you as close to dressy as you can get while being a barista, so if it looks dressy and is comfier ( as opposed to some stiff uncomfortable Dickies pants that feel like cardboard at times) why not ya know.

Nails is dangerous , leggings are not
mochakatpuccino 32 points 7m ago
Leggings actually are dangerous, if 200 degree water spills onto your legs you’ll be going through it
testingaurora 10 points 7m ago
That's true.
supersav32 11 points 7m ago
I feel like 200 degrees is no different through jeggings than it would be leggings. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Also shorts, and leggings with dresses. that’s ain’t stopping 200*
siestasierra 7 points 7m ago
the issue with leggings isn’t that it goes right through because hot water will go through anything, it’s because the synthetic fabric can melt and cause even worse burning and get stuck to your skin and be hard to take off since they’re already tight. Really no idea why they decided to allow jeggings because it should be the same
satisfiedjelly 7 points 7m ago
That’s the same for jeans. I’ve done that with burning oil too. Doesn’t really matter what pants you wear it will go through. Leggings will be faster but jeans will sit longer due to the fabric.
cassxcx 8 points 7m ago
people at my store have been wearing sweatpants but def not part of code😭
Conscious-Ad4757 5 points 7m ago
i wear them because im a pregnant partner.
Chemical_Currency_15 4 points 7m ago
I wear black joggers everyday. They are not baggy but not tight. And they do have a seam down the front so they kinda look like cuffed slacks. Got them from costco for like 9 bucks. Super comfy and stain resistant.
Euphoric_Ad1240 3 points 7m ago
I’m sure they’re not. I was allowed to wear jeggings and athletic style clothes while I was pregnant but I only worked DT and front during that time :)
ElevatorsAreScary 2 points 7m ago
So leggings will melt to your skin. That one is a safety thing. Spandex, leggings, gym clothes, those synthetic fibres (especially on pants) will melt if they come into contact with hot liquids. A partner at my store got second degree burns from freshly brewed coffee not long ago. So don’t wear any sorts of gym leggings or workout pants.

Other than that, as long as it’s not baggy sweat pants then I think it’s fine. Like nice black pants from Lulu lemon (not the joggers but like the office looking ones) are fine in my opinion

If you don’t want to wear them. Don’t.
But don’t worry about what others do.
Let other humans exist.
You never know what another human is going through. Colostomy bag. Stomach issues.
Just let people exist.
If you want to wear them. Wear them.
If someone says something to you.
Accept it.
You don’t know other’s situations.
BeardiesRule112 1 points 7m ago
I want to exist being comfortable 😅
Wonderful-Put-5972 1 points 7m ago
Nope

Over half the staff at my location wear sweats/joggers. As long as they looks nice and are within allowed colours my SM doesn't say anything. 🤷🏻‍♀️On bloated days it's nice having pants that fit 🤣🤣 IYKYK
