So I work at a college starbucks location and we are fairly short staffed these days.. especially during the holiday week. It’s only 3 of us working which I thought was a good thing because we would run a 3 man play and have someone on oven, register and bar. That is not what happened during this week… I find myself working oven and register while my other coworkers only work on bar the whole entire shift and I find it rather annoying when I am backed up on food and have a long line at the register that neither of them stop to ring someone up or take care of food while I get the line down. I am so exhausted running back and forward to the register and the hot freaking oven… Am I overreacting or is this normal to have 2 people station on bar while one person works oven and register

i’m not sure what the volume of orders is like at your store, but that is pretty normal. register is responsible for warming and drip coffee unless you have an extra person to be planted on warming. if they’re getting a constant stream of cafe and mobile orders that’s keeping them busy, then your coworkers should stay on bar. if, say, mobile orders are coming in super slowly or not at all, ask that person to flex and help you out

the only time we do not have a constant line is in the morning for about 30 mins before all the mobile orders and cafe orders come rushing in… sometimes i do ask for someone to get the food items but they never do it so i would have to catch up on handing out food and while i’m handing out food people are asking about mobile food orders from 30-45 mins ago and it just sends me running back and forward a lot which can be disorienting at times… today it was so bad and i didn’t have breakfast nor did i have the time to properly hydrate myself that I had to take a brief moment to puke and none of the other two workers cared that i wasn’t feeling my best so i just had to power through the rest of my shift feeling like shit.

I would say that’s normal. I work at a really busy store and normally at night when we only have 3 partners on the floor, 2 baristas are planted on bar and one is on front and ovens. Even when we aren’t busy it’s typically only one person on front and ovens and the third person is on cs.

I would say it’s normal considering how many people are on the floor, my store if it’s only 3 of us there’s one on dto and dtr at the same time while the rest focus on bar even if it’s busy

I work in a regular Starbucks and when I’m on register I gotta do coffee and oven at the same time. During my down time, I need to check the lobby.
If I’m on bar I usually solo and have to restock myself. Sometimes I need to do dishes in the back during close and bar at the same time.

Unless the bar is dead and they're doing nothing then no, You are not Overreacting. I am lucky enough that my team helps out wherever they can when their station is dead. We run food, Take orders from DT and Front, and Prep. If you find yourself overwhelmed and your partners slacking; Ask them in a manner that is not adversarial.
