Do SMs/DMs/SSVs have to do any training when a partner has a disability? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by [deleted]
I have epilepsy and had a seizure on bar a couple weeks ago. starbucks prides itself on supporting disabilities (unfortunately not every store carries that support) so i was curious if there's any training done so they can support partners with disabilities. im grateful everyone handled the situation well, especially with me being a new rehire at that store (talk about a good ice breaker💀)

They are required to accommodate you, and they get basic emergency training, but otherwise they don't get specific training based on disabilities. Probably just because that'd be a lot of training modules to create for no one to remember any of it in the end, and especially something like seizures varies so much based on the individual.

If you're comfortable with it I'd recommend talking to your sm about how to accommodate your seizures so they can communicate to your shifts how to properly handle them. At the very least make sure they know what a typical seizure looks like for you so no one panics and/or unnecessarily calls paramedics.
