Barista Trainer to SSV (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by misasuke20s
How long do you have to be a barista trainer to move up? Is there a set amount of time? Does it matter?

To my knowledge I don't think it matters. When I got promoted to ssv I was literally in the process of training my first and only green bean

Yeah this is happening with me but I was worried they were gonna be like lol sike u gotta wait!!

You don’t have to be a trainer at all. It’s just the best way to show leadership before promoting.

This comment right here. The only reason I did BT training was because you had to have BT training before getting the SSV training. I showed good leadership qualities and coaching when I was promoted, didn't train my first green bean until I have been SSV for like 6months🤷🏻‍♀️

Please don't quote me on this, as I'm coming from a place of what I was told vs what really happened.

Anyways, I was told to be promoted by the book, you'd have to be a trainer for 6 months. But even then, I think it also depends on your experience and how you're coaching/leading as a trainer.

At the end of the day, regardless of what's "by the book," I think it'll just come down to a combination of how you are doing, how your SM (and possibly even DM) think you're doing, and how your SM follows (or doesn't follow) the rules.

Thank you! This was informative because I asked other SSVs and they all just 🤷‍♂️ but I'm now seeing it's all just depending on the sm and stuff haha

I skipped barista trainer and went right to shift 🤷‍♀️
Chromosomes23 2 points 7m ago
I skipped barista altogether and went straight to shift as an external, I don’t think there is a set way.

My first day of training my first barista I was promoted. Technically you don’t even have to be a trainer
Have_Donut 2 points 7m ago
No set amount of time. I became an SSV about 6 weeks after being a BT and that was about 6 months after hiring on.
cookingmami101 2 points 7m ago
I was a supervisor before being a trainer, but i believe you have to be with the company for 6 months

I became barista trainer then got promoted righter away. Just bc scheduling the interview took a while. I didn’t even train my first green bean till after I finished my ssv training LOL

6 months unless they need someone promoted faster
misasuke20s [OP] 2 points 7m ago
that seems to check out! hoping they need someone faster but i feel like... chances they do are high lol
suibiansuibian 2 points 7m ago
they probably will! i was promoted after maybe 4 months of being a barista trainer? i feel like it was less. a few of our shifts were promoted after about a week lol
