Picking up shifts (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Particular-Poetry319
Hey so I am fairly new to Starbucks, I started early November and during the duration of my training, my trainer was out sick unfortunately so i wasn’t trained properly but I am now getting the hang of things. They haven’t really been giving me the best hours on top of the minimal training to expand my skills, when I check the app there is sometimes shifts up for grabs and was wondering if it is a bad idea to pick up these shifts since I am not really at 100% confident yet, but the shifts are also 5-10pm shifts and we don’t get a lot of customers during that time, anyways do you guys think it’s a bad idea to pick up shifts as a new hire?

It's not a bad idea and no one should give you trouble if you pick one up and let them know you're still new. Especially cause even experienced baristas slow down when in new stores cause everything's placed differently.

I say go for it! Just let them know your strengths and weaknesses if they ask. Just be aware they might still be understaffed which might put you in two positions at once. Just take it slow and remember it's after peak, no need to stress yourself for any customer over times.

As long as you can clock in on the app go for it. Just keep track of your times in case your SM needs it (which they shouldn't but better safe than sorry)

Thank you! I get along with all my co-workers very well, I am fairly young compared to most of them and they know it’s my first job so they are always so nice when helping, the shifts I would pick up would be during a time where we probably get 10-20 orders and hour so very slow, just making sure new hires can also use this feature, but thank you!

Of course! If its on there you can grab it. I hope it goes well for you! Just make sure to ask your coworkers if it's a store you actually want to pick up shifts. There's always 1 or 2 stores in a district you want to avoid lol.
