Out sick, pressured to come in(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by spockfortherapy
Im actively sick. I have nausea, vomiting, headache, sinus congestion, cough, shortness of breath, and a hundred degree fever. I called ever store in the district to find cover and texted every individual person at a few different stores. Even though i HAVE A FEVER, my manager and shift lead told me that I can and should come into work wearing a mask and that i’m fine to work.
This feels…. dangerous? We work in food service, and I have a fever + vomiting. I’ve been dealing with their hoops for days now and i’m feeling pissed.

If you are sick- you are sick. It is not your job to find coverage and if you feel unwell enough to avoid work you 100% should. If they give you crap about it please contact higher ups. The fever alone knocks you out from work. You need to recover :( not be stressed finding coverage

Yeah, you wouldn’t pass the check in so don’t go in. If push comes to shove your manager will lose that battle.

she’s saying i do pass the check

No way. The quick connect card has all the reasons someone can’t work, and it includes vomiting in the last 24 hours, fever, and cough with difficulty breathing. All of this stuff was added onto the partner precheck. Don’t go in, and use your protected sick time.

i mean i completely agree. i have no idea why she’s being so ridiculous but honestly this has sealed my decision to apply other places and quit asap

As my trainer ssv told me: "you care too much. Caring about this place is just going to kill you."
I just put my shift on the marketplace and turn off my phone whenever I call off. If they want to write me up, we can have a nice sitdown with HR and discuss what policy I broke.

Coming into work while vomiting is a health code violation in the US, it’s not Starbucks policy it’s a federal standard. Even if you aren’t in the US I can’t imagine it’s much different elsewhere.
Contact your dm or go straight to HR. Your sm is directly putting you, your coworkers, and customers in danger.
