Has anyone had an experience of a customer mocking you? I said “Hi, there!” to a customer once and he said it back to me in the same tone. It was very insulting 😂
chicken-tiddies98 points7m ago
Someone made fun of me for my tremor in my hand and my stutter 🫥
long-pit30 points7m ago
me when i'm a dick to someone for something they can't control
chicken-tiddies25 points7m ago
I was like "pick one, homie"
mandylee_284 points7m ago
Im sorry people are jerks. I also have a tremor due to my epilepsy and it sucks. As for my stutter, it only comes when my anxiety is high. So I get you.
chicken-tiddies4 points7m ago
Mine isn't a typical stutter, and usually I try to barrel thru my sentences in spite of it but like. Choose one to make fun of me for, not both at the same time.
quickthinxallthots78 points7m ago
oh also to add i say things in twos (like "hello hello!" and "thank you thank you!") i just think it sounds fun and friendly and energetic, but i get quite a few customers who make fun of me for it. it doesn't bother me, but it's like man, do you feel so disgusted with yourself that this is the sort of thing you choose to pick on?
mrcupcake1818 points7m ago
So what were you saying about people being disgusted with themselves? Perfect example right there with this person below 👇🏽 . Anyway! I would actually love someone upbeat and talking the way you do so you just keep doing you friend!
quickthinxallthots1 points7m ago
thank you! im actually not the most upbeat person myself but i try to be when i talk to customers because energy is contagious and that's why they're there... :)
mrcupcake181 points7m ago
That’s a great way to think of it actually! I’m actually pretty up beat myself but I’m also pretty chill haha
miyamisuu5 points7m ago
I would rather have you be happy and giddy and cheerful than miserable and depressive. I know things get crazy and rough at Starbies but as an SSV myself, I want my partners feel happy and not stressed. I let my partners do what keeps them sane as long as it in line of policy of course.
devhelix-50 points7m ago
Okay but if i worked w you that would annoy the f out of me
Traditional-Emu-140310 points7m ago
You sound like a pleasure
quickthinxallthots6 points7m ago
sorry you hate yourself enough to make other people feel bad about harmless things. i hope you find peace
devhelix-1 points7m ago
Annoying things are almost always harmless thats why they’re only annoying 😂
Geneshairymol53 points7m ago
*I don't actually like you. I am being cheerful because I am evaluated by my boss. Fuuuuuuuuuck youuuuuuu*
Suspicious-Crystal6 points7m ago
This has some awesome Missy from Bring It On vibes. 😍
Geneshairymol1 points7m ago
Thanks!
katesperdaghost3 points7m ago
this has me cackling that's my brain every shift whether it's directed at customers or coworkers 😂😭
Melodic_Prior695953 points7m ago
In my previous Starbucks barista life I solo'd drive through, cafe register, warming, and CS simultaneously every time i worked. I was the only voice our customers heard lol. I lost my voice a number of years ago and when it came back it completely changed. I now sound like a small child. I have had numerous customers start laughing hysterically when they heard me on the speaker. Parents would tell me their children liked my voice. The managers did note that people did not get as angry with me when I had to tell them we were out of something lol.
quickthinxallthots43 points7m ago
my ssv regularly calls customers "hun" or "love" and today a customer came through and was perfectly friendly throughout the entire transaction but ended the conversation with a weirdly out of no where mocking "thanks HUN" and we were all just ?????????????????????????????????
sheep_heavenly2 points7m ago
She should've just said your SSV was annoying with the level of "hun" being used. I hate it too but just say so or don't go back, no need to mock it because that doesn't get the actual point across.
quickthinxallthots1 points7m ago
we're in the south so "hun" kind of comes naturally here. people usually dont take offense to it and if you do, you just don't say anything unless you know the person. i'm someone who doesn't like pet names, but that's just kind of how it is here.
sheep_heavenly-2 points7m ago
>people usually dont take offense to it and if you do, you just don't say anything
So you don't really know how offensive it is or how often it bothers people because culturally those bothered are just expected to suck it up.
quickthinxallthots0 points7m ago
thats not what im saying at all. 😐 i'm just explaining the culture here. i just said i personally don't like it either. it's not that offensive though. the only time i speak up is if someone is being misgendered.
vineanddandy29 points7m ago
I’m petty and refuse to let bullies have that kind of power so I’d just ask if there was an echo in here and smile at them. Once you embarrass them back and they realize you won’t be a punching bag it will stop real quick.
distractedstonergirl1 points7m ago
yes i loveeee this
Gingerzygote20 points7m ago
i act very visibly neurodivergent on POS especially because the stress of work makes masking harder for me. the mocking on register is intense sometimes. it's something i've unfortunately just gotten used to
filmphotographywhore18 points7m ago
Happened to me… The lady ordered and the person she was talking to on the phone said “Hi there, thank you for choosing Starbucks - My name is filmphotographywhore, what can I get started for you?” In my voice. I brushed it off, but my partner/trainee at the time didn’t like how they mocked me and told them that we could hear them.. the guy, still on the speaker was sooo embarrassed. I didn’t really care, but oh well
Veloci-Tractor11 points7m ago
They do not dare for I will mock them back
Electrical_Metal_1065 points7m ago
Right? This is me. They want to start mocking me, it’s on. Let the roasting commence.
Sharkbird_Jr11 points7m ago
ive had a customer make fun of my stutter before 🙃
cherryyrat9 points7m ago
i had a grown ass adult in cafe yell 'hello' at us while his grown ass wife giggled LOUDLY while drive was slammed. we collectively chose to ignore them 💀
oooortcloud7 points7m ago
When a costumer is unacceptably rude to me, I raise my chin, lock eyes, and say nothing. I let them think about what they just said. Then I finish the transaction and erase them from my mind.
Demonic_Witch6665 points7m ago
I had customers mock me for my stutter, the way I move and most especially my scars
CookieWhole37513 points7m ago
I talk really fast when it gets closer to the end of the night, and i said “hithankyouforchoosingstarbuckswhatcanIgetstartedforya??” Which normally, isn’t really an issue. But this one guy said “hithankyoubfor- FUCKING WHAT?” Definitely cried that night.
Necessary_Low9393 points7m ago
Yesterday I called someone’s name and they mocked the way I said it and I glared at them for the remaining time until they left.
jazzysoranio3 points7m ago
My favorite response is to say nothing after that and wait for them to start the conversation back up. There’s no rule that says you have to respond to mockery, so don’t. It makes things super awkward for the customer.
Spinelise3 points7m ago
I often stim while I work, either by constantly swaying or a small little jig while I have to stay planted in one spot and just wave my arms a little. And sometimes I'll spot a customer in the cafe mimicking me and dancing along and whether or not they mean well I get super embarrassed ;_;
Vallion042 points7m ago
One time I started with my whole “Hi, welcome to Starbucks, what can I get you today?” And the guy in the passenger seat repeated that back to me. I hit him with the “I’m sorry it’s very hard to hear you from the passenger seat, what was that?” But he didn’t want to repeat what he said and the guy in the driver seat ended up ordering for him
besoinducafe2 points7m ago
I have a stutter and most people very loudly and comfortably laugh at me when I stutter :(
smoolbeean1 points7m ago
had some one yell their drink order to me and said “did you hear it that time” when i asked them to repeat it
Bententoes1 points7m ago
Two guys in a Porsche or something else expensive made fun of me for being friendly and cheery. They just literally started mocking me at the window and I was stunned. Eat the rich and let’s start with those guys
mandylee_281 points7m ago
I have hearing loss enough to have to wear a hearing aid, read lips and know some Asl. I had customers fake asl (American sign language) to me. I then faked cried cause they signed a cuss ward at me. I explained what they did and turned red ran away. 🤣
Dazzling_Pop_70731 points7m ago
My coworker does this but to the costumers 💀 she does it in such a way that the costumers some how never seem offended either it's astonishing and so funny every time
faunaflorist1 points7m ago
One time I was at the window and I was probably only a partner of 6 months so I still had a will to live at this point. But I opened the window to guy this guys payment and I say “hi! Your total is gonna be 4.01!” And he just looks at me almost repulsed and says “boy you’re bright eyed and bushy tailed aren’t you?” So I finished the transaction w this look 😒
Electrical_Metal_1061 points7m ago
I’ve had a jackass teenager in the back seat ask me, “aren’t you too old for this job?” Like, maybe, but here we are. 🙃
JustMyOwnSpace1 points7m ago
I’ve only been working at Starbucks (part-time) for a few months, and I try to be as polite as possible. I’ve literally seen customers start laughing at me when I say something is out of stock, or when I go over the order. I don’t take it personally (if anything I find it really funny), but DAMN people are so unnecessarily rude!
Traditional-Emu-14031 points7m ago
Oh, if one of them dares try me they find out how much of an older sister I am. Roasting begins.
