Called out for the first time while I’m still in my first month. I caught a cold. I’m usually attentive and on time. Am I going to be fired? (I overthink about everything) (self.starbucksbaristas)

During much time spent in retail/service, I have taken solace in the following things:

a) it's just a business it will run with or without you

b) you are replaceable in a way that means guilt about not being there isn't necessary

c) YOU and your health are more important than they are - don't sacrifice your wellness for other people.

Feel better OP, get some rest!

honey if they fired you we will raise hell about it. you are sick and need time to rest, your store should be hopefully be understanding. as long as you called the store with plenty of time in advance to let them know they shouldn’t take any repercussion over it
feel better soon hun!!

Thank you! I called as soon as the store opened as I had a 6am shift. I planned on going on but, decided not to when I woke up. I felt like hell. I called as early as I could!

You will not get in trouble for calling out sick! Talk to your leader about getting your shift covered, but otherwise stay home and focus on getting better! 🥰

You’ll be ok, I had to take a 3 week leave a month and a half in because of mental health issues and I’m still with the company over a year later even though I had to take 2 more month long leaves because of the same issues. It’s just coffee, customers will still be able to get it, and the company still makes money either way, so everything’s alright!

you will not be fired. don’t take this wrong but you’re new so they won’t depend on you too much yet to contribute, mostly just practicing and getting used to things for the first few months. either way, your health is #1!
