Venti Thanksgiving Rant (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by PrestigiousLong3023
So, my manager had put up a sign up sheet about a month before Thanksgiving asking who wanted to work. The incentives for working the holiday were:

1. Time and a half, and

2. Tips from the day would be shared only amongst those of us who worked the day.

Finally, the sign up sheet gets taken down and everyone who wanted to be scheduled, was. Come yesterday (thanksgiving). We found out while we’re on the floor that the tips would no longer be split between us, and that they would be put into the weekly pool, per our DM.

We were pissed. We get probably about $1/hour with the normally weekly tips. We counted around 11 in the morning and we had almost 300 in cash. The tips would have been so good, and they were the reason that a lot of us had even signed up! Yes, we’ll still get time and a half, which will be nice, but quite a few of my coworkers and myself wouldn’t have signed up if it weren’t for the tips.

Several people started saying that they’d go to the DM and complain to her, it’s not fair, this is why we signed up. My SSV who was working at the time said that she would call the DM tomorrow (today) and find a way to politely communicate how we felt, since a lot of us seemed too angry to call her and effectively communicate our feelings. She said that she would say that the general consensus from all of us is that this isn’t fair, and she would say that she thinks the tips should be split for the day as they were promised to, since this is what we all agreed to.

Anyway, we’ll see. Obviously there are probably more important/bigger things that people have to rant about, but this was really disappointing. Just had to rant about that. Also on a side note, this SSV and all my coworkers are really incredible.

My SM said no to the Thanksgiving tip thing. It’s lame and makes no sense

Starbucks needs corporate policies, and needs to adhere to them. The management is a chaotic mess with every store and manager making independent decisions. Furthermore, reneging on a previously posted decision is out of control.
