how to know if you’re getting a verbal write up? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by GhostfaceJK
idk if i worded that correctly but basically a few days ago one of my SSVs pulled me aside to talk about a tiny incident with a customer. it wasn’t anything major but it’s the first time i’ve ever had something like this happen.

my shift speaks in a way where even though she’s saying nice things, the words don’t feel positive. i don’t think i was in trouble but it still felt like i kinda was.

if she didn’t actually say that this is like a warning then i should be fine right?

SSVs don’t have the power to write anyone up, if you’re getting written up you’ll have a meeting with your SM about it. She probably just wanted to connect with you about what happened so you can watch out for similar situations in the future 👍🏻

As a SSV i pull people aside to make sure they are okay in the interaction and coach to help them handle the situation a little better.

any write up would require a meeting with your sm, whether it’s just a documented coaching or an actual write up since ssvs can’t write you up. anything that just comes from your ssv is purely coaching and not documented. if your sm hasn’t said anything i’d say you’re in the clear

Shifts can write you up. Their title is shift manager (sfm), they make more then a ssv and don't get tips.
Starbucks doesn't have a verbal write ups per se. They have what they call coaching. We're encouraged to constantly coach to standards. And we're supposed to coach 1-2 times before we start documenting, which would be an actual write up. You would be talked to, then given a sheet of paper that had everything we just talked about and asked to sign it. We're encouraged to coach by pointing out things you not only need to work on, but things you're doing great at, some people are terrible at the latter. It sounds like they were warning you, that whatever you did wasn't to starbucks standard and if you do it again, you could be written up.
