im putting my two weeks in tomorrow. (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by michelleiscliche
i cant do this anymore. today was my last strike. my manager is a piece of shit who can’t come in to help us at all. is currently under investigation for weeks and has yet to be fired. and today we’ve had 5 call outs. today me and two other of my coworkers were alone in the store. i was in charged to close. i’m not even a supervisor. i couldn’t stop crying while trying to finish drinks to close the store. i shouldn’t have to keep doing the work of 3 people. i am one person with two hands.

Report this to the HR line. This is insane. This is the biggest of nono's to not have an SSV and give a key to a barista. You deserve compensation and your DM deserves recourse
Longjumping_Future63 29 points 7m ago
DID THEY MAKE YOU COUNT THE DRAWERS TOO?
Lcolecrochet 9 points 7m ago
Everything about this has me SCREAMING. I AM HORRIFIED
michelleiscliche [OP] 3 points 7m ago
so i think we might have money in the drawers LMFAO??? but my ssv actually didn’t have their keys because my sm actually took his keys and gave it to a borrowed ssv to use them and my ssv hasn’t received his keys back
lizzard-queen03 128 points 7m ago
Not having a SSV is literally illegal wtf
michelleiscliche [OP] 62 points 7m ago
our district manager said he would find someone but after 30 minutes we’re not allowed to be in the store. but they never arrived 🙂
tinseltesseract 55 points 7m ago
OP none of this is remotely okay or allowed. You need to go to your regional director or area director and report your DM and SM like yesterday. This shit is crazy.
astivana 22 points 7m ago
I’m confused, how did you close the store without a key holder??
michelleiscliche [OP] 38 points 7m ago
lol what’s a key holder 😭😭😭
astivana 48 points 7m ago
The keyholder is the shift supervisor or manager. The person who has keys for the safe and the building and stuff.

Did y'all just leave the money in the drawers??? I'm so fascinated, this is such an unbelievably Not Okay situation you were put in.
animallive 10 points 7m ago
who closed the door op 😭
persona-2 7 points 7m ago
So this is a misinterpretation of that policy. A keyholder is allowed to clock out, go to lunch, and come back, which does leave the building without one for half an hour.

You can’t have a keyholder clock out for the day and leave just with the knowledge of the next one will be here within 30 minutes.

Had something very similar happen to me while I was training as an ssv. I was hired in as one and after a few days of my supervisor training I was handed a key and told to close. I didn’t have a code for the safe or the alarm. Didn’t even have my own key the manager handed me her spare. I didn’t know how to count the safe or even get into it. The only thing I knew how to do was the pull on top of it all that shift was probably my 4th close ever. I felt so bad for my team that night. I left about a month later because our manager was very similar to yours.
michelleiscliche [OP] 3 points 7m ago
i’m so glad someone knows. my sm has been under investigation about for a month and my dm refuses to let anyone transfer. all of my ssv have been trying to transfer and recently one just quit because of my sm
Texastexastexas1 1 points 7m ago
Did you inform the higher-up’s of the situation?
SupaSadButSupaRad 2 points 7m ago
Around the time I was leaving the team was getting together a list of everything that was going on with our manager but as far as I know she’s still in charge of the store. I don’t see anything happening in the future.
cristianap36 12 points 7m ago
Get a lawyer in contact that's illegal
Kivic 17 points 7m ago
It’s not illegal to not have a SSV. It is definitely against corporate policy but not illegal by law.
Zealousideal-Star448 5 points 7m ago
Yo what dude. Seriously report everything and write this all down. You may get cash compensation for this bull one day. Seriously write down who was there what time who said what save texts, save emails, try to get everything in writing, manager calls? “Sorry can’t hear you you sound all muffled just text me what you need!”
aee78 5 points 7m ago
Did they leave you in the store by yourself???? That's so unsafe!
michelleiscliche [OP] 2 points 7m ago
i wasnt by msyelf. i was with other two other coworkers but it still felt unreal 🙃
aee78 2 points 7m ago
I bet. It sounds like a nightmare. BUt at least you weren't by yourself.
brensteven2005 4 points 7m ago
Two weeks? Two weeks. You being generous. I would have called that night and said never again I quit.
michelleiscliche [OP] 2 points 7m ago
the thing is, i really do enjoy working at my store. i love my coworkers and my ssv but the management has been horrible since i got hired. i do want to return in the future if i ever get the chance :)
Toal_ngCe 4 points 7m ago
Bro wtf contact ur dm; none of that is remotely allowed
michelleiscliche [OP] 2 points 7m ago
my dm was actually one of the people who caused this lol. everyone in our district hates him 😭
Toal_ngCe 1 points 7m ago
Well vroom vroom time to go up the chain of command
michelleiscliche [OP] 2 points 7m ago
i think everyone is thinking of this. my sm and dm HATE each other and have been sabotaging us in return🙂
Lower_Side_4443 3 points 7m ago
Op wow I'm so sorry that really sucks. You shouldn't of been given a key the last ssv in should of closed the doors and closed down before they left the store and the baristas go home early pr sent to other stores to work. Even if you are still quitting I would go above the district manager and talk to the people above them or this will keep happening to other staff just like you. Your DM and SM sound shady AF!! :( hey maybe you'll get se $ compensation for this situation if you report them.
ashaustad 1 points 7m ago
Why don’t they just close the store for the day if there is not enough workers? Customers will be pissed they don’t get their precious caffeine kick in 5 mins and the workers are obviously going to be over worked and put under unnecessary extra pressure its just asking for a powder keg to explode.
michelleiscliche [OP] 1 points 7m ago
it’s not as easy as it’s sounds. we’ve had to stay open when we would only have two people in the store :/
vaeluxe 1 points 7m ago
I quit at 10pm before my opening the next day, just take the L on the relationship and go lol
Mercury-Redstone 1 points 7m ago
I'm so sorry
michelleiscliche [OP] 2 points 7m ago
it’s okay LOL i’m making a nail appointment as we speak 😭
