Black Friday Horror (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by [deleted]
*ALL DAY WE WHERE SHORT STAFF RUNNING OFF 3-4 people*

Smack myself in face and got bloody nose with bottle syrup that was on top shelf

Shift cut hand open so bad she got sent home

Ran solo bar by myself for first time (i barley been on bar so running solo interesting)

Slammed my finger in fridge door and turn purple and swelled up right before end my shift. Can’t move it at all or bend it. (Funny part it’s my middle finger)

Customers suck today

We called try see if we can turn our mobiles off but we couldn’t

All of us want to cry and burn the place down

Net time they don't let mobiles go off, and this only works if you have a chill shift lead, mark everything out. No one will be able to order and they'll have to come in if they really want it, they'll see the line and think twice. This works best if there isn't a green bean on pos. And to make it easier, write what you ACTUALY don't have on a post it and stick it on the pos.

as an ssv, i’ve seen others get written up for this so just watch out, especially on busy days like today where DMs expect a big profit. but i’m with ya, i have a giant cut on my leg from one of our fridges and i was solo bar for most of the afternoon 🙃

Oh yea ive been a barista for almost 3 years but when i was under a year in or about a year in, a shift supervisor at my store was a closer and he said green beans were always being scheduled during his shifts which he said he was fine with but because they werent too fast on bar, he would apparently turn off the strawberry acai in the system so it shows that were out of it to mobile order customers and he only kept it shit off for a little bit to get them thru the after school rush. Well one time the manager told him that in a few days, the DM was guns come and have a talk with all 3 of them to discuss it. Well the shift supervisor ended up puttin in his 2 weeks. Idk if they were guna write him up or fire him but he didnt want it to end like that so he put his 2 weeks in but yea at my store, u will get dealt with if u do that. Idk how long my shift was doing that for tho

Edit to add: he was turning the strawberry acai off to give the green beans a chance to catch up on bar during that after school Rush

I know our shifts have marked stuff out. It saves our sanity and it means a lot. Because WE are the ones who run the store.

This is the way
francescugh 1 points 7m ago
why give ppl advice that could get them potentially written up/fired
sheep_heavenly 10 points 7m ago
Why does a company operate so poorly that employees are okay being potentially written up just to make a single day slightly more bearable?

Green apron partners aren't the problem in this scenario.

Damn. I hope this wasn’t your first Black Friday. Our store flooded on my first Black Friday there, so only DT was open and we got $1.75 in tips total for 45 min of work before the DM approved store closure. We were ready to burn the entire town, lol.

It was first at Starbucks it suck more cause legitly people where waiting 10 mins before shifts call out. Or waiting till after shift to call out
fredforthered 3 points 7m ago
Wtf. So unprofessional. I get that it’s friggin SBUX, but that’s shitty to other partners aka the people who keep things running.

Black Friday culture is also super fucked in general. Open whenever, stay closed, idc, ask the workers what they want and how they envision the day and proceed accordingly.

That was my thing if your gonna call out on big day aleast call hr or so ahead so we can try find someone. I came in hour early and was more frustrating that others doing this. Expessally my mangerment actually treats us right and accommodate no matter. I had family emergency few weeks back and my manger cover my shift for me even though I was willing to work it.

I’m glad you have a good manager. I left sbux over management and now that I’m in that role(diff field), it’s very important to me to make sure that I set the example and approach people with empathy first. We’re all humans and have our own needs and crises.

sounds exactly like my day.

I don't know what I would have done yesterday without my manager sitting in the packed Cafe on his laptop while we struggled 🤗

At my store there could’ve been a fire and they still wouldn’t let us turn the damn mobile orders off. Even a few times we lost power and mobiles kept coming through even though nothing was printing or could be made

If I can ask what state ?

If it makes you feel better -- add a store closing in the district
AppointmentLatter302 1 points 7m ago
The only other store in our district had mobiles turn off (nothing new for them) and closed there inside
