Question about sick time/vacation time.(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Caleb_Gooberson
So I've been working for Starbucks for about a year and I hardly get sick or have to use sick time for appointments. At my old job the sick time expired or there was a max amount you can keep so like we only had about 20 hrs we can keep at a time there so I took mental break days like most did at that job because we got sick time really fast.
So my question is does our sick time or vacation time only hold so much and if so do you know how much or how I can see while not at the store? And are we able to use sick time on mental health days? At my old job it was recommended to do with sick time and all.
Just wondering because I just thought about it because a partner was talking about how they have to call out often with sick time.
Thanks if ya take time to answer 😊

From what I understand your unused sick time rolls over year-to-year and if/when you leave the company you’ll get your sick time and PTO cashed out in your last paycheck 👍🏻 you can check how many hours you have in the partner self-service portal (same place you can view your paystubs)

Tysm for your response and makes sense it just was different at my old job and I've been here for a while and never thought about if they only build to a certain amount.

Vacation time does get paid out when you leave. Sick time does NOT get paid out.
While you don’t have to use sick time for doctor’s appointments you might as well. Schedule it out and use some sick time.
Mental health days are also covered with sick time. My SM is pretty understanding and will work with us on using it for a rough week. Like anniversary of someone passing she would rather have us talk to her and schedule that day off knowing we are going to use sick time then call out last minute. Not all of my SMs have been willing to do that though.
