Are harem pants allowed? I can't find anything to say no but my SM just told me I can't wear them. ()

I would say these fall under SM discretion on if they are “gym or workout apparel” or “practical fit for food service”

Some “versions” of harem pants seem like they’d be fine, the pair in the photo here seem like they could argue that they’re too baggy to be “practical fit”, and your SM could claim they’re a safety hazard getting caught on things
clouds183 96 points 7m ago
no baggy pants
SWEGDovahkiin -45 points 7m ago
But where does it say that?
GhostfaceJK 108 points 7m ago
one of the dress code rules is “practical fit for food service” ur SM probably thinks it’s not practical or smth. or it just looks too similar to gym clothes
DoppelGanger90 72 points 7m ago
Your SM doing you a favor lmao.
peachkween 1 points 7m ago
Naturally I had to creep after seeing that comment and saw you posting about DGD… so you can’t be that bad
SWEGDovahkiin -84 points 7m ago
Says the one who wears camo pants 🤭
DoppelGanger90 40 points 7m ago
Creeping on my page eh? not surprised.

It just got a bit much lmao. Yeah, I would say. Seems like you take things far too seriously.
iodge 1 points 7m ago
nd he looked good doing it so what’s the issue
Fantastic1357 71 points 7m ago
They’re not allowed because they’re ugly
SWEGDovahkiin -29 points 7m ago
Awesome thanks for your opinion.
ElevatorsAreScary 61 points 7m ago
No. These are sweatpants/workout clothes. It doesn’t matter if they’re called something else. That’s sweatpant/workout clothes like material, baggy, tight at the ankles but loose everywhere else. If you showed me this picture and didn’t tell me it had a different name, I’d assume that these are sweatpants everytime.

If you’re set on wearing them, go a few months with no write ups, transfer to a store with a different manager and try again. But as an ssv id say these are not dress code too
gingergal-n-dog 39 points 7m ago
I understand why OP doesn't wish to force the issue.

But i can't resist this learning moment. Harem pants: They are traditional pants with origins in North Africa, the middle east and parts of Southern Asia. They are usually made of cotton or other natural fibers that are lt weight and promote ventilation. They've been around for literally centuries going in and out of fashion in the west. Not exactly work out clothes, although MC Hammer did perfect the running man in his own style- the parachute pant
Depending on your heritage the sm could be seen as discriminatory and non- inclusive.
bitch-baby-2021 10 points 7m ago
if they are light weight and promote ventilation they aren't safe around hot coffee, just like leggings
edreesmiraki 3 points 7m ago
This is probably one of the main reasons that its not allowed, ive spilled hot tea on these type of pants before and that shit was not fun. Ngl i didnt even know they sold these pants outside of cultural clothes
[deleted] [OP] 41 points 7m ago
I mean, as a shift i wouldn't let you wear it...
it's impractical for food service. Excessively baggy clothing like this can pose a hazard by getting caught on things. It also just looks incredibly inappropriate and unprofessional.
Formal-Passenger2313 5 points 7m ago
I agreed with everything until the last line. These pants come from their cultural heritage. “Incredibly inappropriate” can be taken offensively. If you meant not appropriate for work and not a subjective opinion then I understand that. To undermine a cultural article of clothing is disrespectful. Especially since this article of clothing can be worn in professional workspaces in their originating country.

it’s a coffee shop, we are not working as assistants for a ceo 😭

MasterMischievous -35 points 7m ago
We’re actually partners of the ceo. So I mean yeah look like a shareholder of a company. Or at least don’t look like you belong in a shelter.
skinniestbarista 6 points 7m ago
harem pants are extremely comfy and very common in hotter parts of the world. also, that partner bs is just a way to get us to feel important. just bc we own some stock doesn’t mean we’re shareholders who have to dress like we’re having conferences on the daily…

The dress code is a general guideline, however for vaguer points your sm has final say. This seems like ones of those times
flowrpot 23 points 7m ago
Everyone’s saying no and I honestly agree. It’s just not a good fit for the environment. There’s a LOT of flex around the dress code at Sbux, the best I’ve ever worked within any restaurant job, so to say you can’t wear those isn’t a big deal. Still plenty of options. It’s not convenient, especially when you’re working quickly, moving around a lot, there’s a chance of it getting snagged.
AnimeStanleyKubrick 17 points 7m ago
Just gonna throw this out there, even if it's all good to wear them, in my experience harem pants hold smell so much that those will forever be your bux-smell pants.
PortionOfSunshine 12 points 7m ago
Unfortunately the answer is no, clothing is supposed to be properly fitted. It’s Starbucks not a festival. They are cool pants tho.
Shoddy-Trainer-8051 10 points 7m ago
Some are too baggy and you’re not supposed to wear “ill fitting clothes” meaning I got called out for wearing my bf’s shirt but not baggy mom jeans. Sense? These is none. It is what it is tho
HanatabaRose 6 points 7m ago
the dress code is made by people who wear business casual all day based on what they imagine is practical so im quite certain they didnt have this in mind when making the rules. personally i'd let it fly but that also comes down to your DM as well
MasterMischievous -4 points 7m ago
No it’s written my store managers at one of the many store manager meetings they have. I assure you very few decisions are made from corporate workers that actually impact a retail partner.
gingergal-n-dog 5 points 7m ago
Your sm doesn't understand the dress code. They're allowed bc they're not specifically dq unless they violate another rule (color, hem, holes, etc.)
Ask them to review the written policy with you so you can get clarification and ask questions.

Tunics aren't stated in code, but allowed. Same for overalls & jumpers.
SWEGDovahkiin 13 points 7m ago
She said they "look too similar to workout sweatpants"
I'm not gonna argue anything with her. I'm already on my final writeup and want to talk to her as little as possible.

ETA: all of my writeups have been over something stupid like not performing well in the morning even though i was on the schedule 8 hours ahead of my availability. I have a sleep disorder.
SeaworthinessGold846 9 points 7m ago
Don’t argue about the dress code with her. Make it 3 months without a write up and transfer to another store then wear the pants. Looks like she is looking for a reason to write you up
SWEGDovahkiin 7 points 7m ago
Final write ups don't go away.
clouds183 1 points 7m ago
your final write up is only for the specific thing it was about. for example if you’re on a final for being late, you’re not going to get fired for being out of dress code multiple times and getting a write up for that. but it does sound like your sm might be finding any reason to fire you, so transferring might be your best option.
Necessary_Low939 8 points 7m ago
If ure on a final write up just stick to a dress code that won’t get u fired
TarantulaTeeth13 4 points 7m ago
Unless you are just looking to get fired 🤷🏼‍♀️
testingaurora 6 points 7m ago
What does ETA stand for in this context? I’ve only ever known it as Estimated Time of Arrival

Do you have an official reasonable accommodation on file with PRSC with documentation from your treating provider? Unless you do, your SM doesn’t have to schedule you within your availability unless you have another reason, like school or another job.
cherrythot 1 points 7m ago
Curious as to where this rule is stated? I was under the impression that you only had to be available a certain amount of hours a week and be available for at least 1 weekend day. I don’t see how it’s your SMs business why you have your availability set a certain way, and if they’ve already approved it why it would be an issue.
frappeyourmom 0 points 7m ago
I’m no longer a partner, but that’s what I was told by PRSC and the DM when I contested a write up for struggling during morning peak when I was originally hired to work closes.

And it completely isn’t your SM’s business why your availability is set a certain way, which is why it’s done through PRSC. It’s not just a Starbucks thing to do this. In a desk jockey job, I had to do the same thing for reasonable accommodations. Business needs change, which is why it could become an issue.
allyfabyy 3 points 7m ago
It doesnt look like an elevated type of dress up
Garfield_Simp 2 points 7m ago
I’d say no, they seem too baggy to be practical while on the floor
PotatoLaBelle 1 points 7m ago
Cool pants, but definitely the kind of thing that might get caught on the corner of a counter or a cabinet door, tripping or yanking you, potentially while holding something very hot. Even if your SM was cool with it, I’d say it’s probably considered out of dress code.

But also, if your SM already said no, then like 🤷‍♂️ what does it matter what any of us think lol
Professor_Sqi 1 points 7m ago
These are crying to get caught on something etc. They're not suitable with how baggy they are. Take the L here and wear something different
