Is my manager allowed to use my sick time without my consent/knowledge? I was saving my sick time and I recently opened the book on the wrong page and saw my manager had used 6 hours of sick time on a day I called out because I was out of state. Leading through I saw other times he’d written in my sick time himself without my knowledge. I went home that day and checked my paystubs- I now have 1 hour of sick time left.

I would talk to them about it but its possible that they thought they were doing you a favor. You called out bc you were out of state which is an unapproved absence which they should be giving you a write up for.

He knew I was out of state, he scheduled me regardless. I’m sure he thought he was helping me. I’m just trying to get clarifications on the rules since I don’t know the details

Either way the time off request wasnt approved and either was the call out but it doesn’t matter.
This has happened to some people I’ve worked with where vacation time was used instead of sick time and they got their vacation hours refunded.

The time off was approved. Months in advance

That’s strange. Your manager literally can’t schedule you on days you have approved time off. The schedule program doesn’t allow it.

Was it approved on Partner hours or just by word of mouth? If it was word of mouth, then your SM may have screwed up and used your sick time to compensate for what could have been considered a missed shift.

What were the other times he used your sick hours for

I’m pretty sure you have to sign off on it for it to be used in the book too… SM can’t use your time without permission.

i’m pretty sure the policy is that if you call out you must use your sick time if you have any. gonna go look it up to double check bc now i’m curious
ETA: couldn’t find anything on if it Had to be used or not but i would check with your SM

I think its that calling out sick is only protected if you use sick time, otherwise its treated like a regular call out.

that makes more sense!

In my store my manager have always checked with the partner's when processing payroll if they would like to use family care or vacation hours.
