Carpal tunnel syndrome (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by pollygranger
I worked for sbux for like 12 years, developed carpal tunnel syndrome about halfway through that, ignored it and worked through the pain. Now I regret not quitting sooner- 3 years out after leaving and I can’t even write a paragraph without my whole arm and hand going numb. Just a little advice from a former 159****- do the hand stretches, rotate off of bar and oven, and quit while you’re ahead. I used to love making art-drawing and painting, lettering and such- but it’s really painful now.

I've been with Sbux for a little over a year now, with carpal tunnel in both hands already. Some days I can't even close my hand, I understand how you feel. I'll hopefully be leaving Sbux when I move next year. I hope that you can find relief, I hear that surgery works well.

158 here. Putting caramel drizzle on drinks is excruciating. All these xxxxcaramel and cup-lined caramel drinks make me want to amputate both hands.

Yes!! The new bottles were so much better but I’d still have to take the cap off for some of those extra caramel people!

How does it happen?

My understanding is it’s from overusing your wrists, pouring and steaming milk 6 days a week are what did it for me.

That has to be painful. Is there any way of treating it or getting surgery?

It's from repetitive movement. I have it in my right arm, well tennis elbow and carpel tunnel in my left from compensation for my right. I've been doing physical therapy for it.
