That there needs a new o ring that goes in the bottom. Also make sure the top of the actual spout says chai/frap roast on its neck and not mocha/white mocha

common issue in my store is people not reading the labels that exist for a reason. this is the most probable thing so check that first. it also happens to the frap roast if they’re on wrong.
SandPanda274 points7m ago
It’s always the worst when you notice it during peak
darkwolf5232 points7m ago
Right? Tbh I close every night and I would expect it to be the right pump. But when it’s not, usually I can feel something isn’t right as you pump the chai/white mocha
badbaristuh75 points7m ago
This also frequently happens when the chai inside the pump has spoiled. Make sure your pumps are being fully disassembled and cleaned through at turnover. chai has a 24h unrefrigerated shelf life because it begins to ferment, and it’ll foam up and clog the pump just like this, making it spray and leak. If consistent cleaning doesn’t fix the issue, you should start replacing parts, starting with the O rings like the other commenters suggested.

Chai and frappucino roast need a special o ring to prevent this. The o ring has 2 colour
Ok-Sheepherder-861411 points7m ago
Which colored ring do you guys use?
rammslil25 points7m ago
All pumps is a blue oring and chai/roast is blue and red (i think) I can verify to be sure later during my shift!
mondrianna13 points7m ago
WHAT? Omg how has this information not been disseminated better. Sometimes I really hate working for the siren
Helpful-Toe217411 points7m ago
I think it’s black for chai and frap roast at least at the stores I’ve worked at
Ok-Sheepherder-86146 points7m ago
You are such a lifesaver!

Completely dismantle it and see if the various seals are ok if they are then I don't know just put a rag around it
JustAnotherRyan53 points7m ago
Not sure if this is a joke (but I’ve def seen this before), but please don’t do that. WORST case, order a new pump, but the o ring should be the issue here.
AKsuperslay2 points7m ago
Which part
DragonslayerKal1 points7m ago
How do you think i should go about convincing my SM’s to check the seal and clean the pumps instead of band aiding it with a rag? Ive never said anything before cause i never thought about it but now that i know that i definitely don’t think the rag is the most sanitary option.
trbpanda9 points7m ago
if fixing the o ring doesn't work to fix this the only other way is to get a new chai pump. ours did this for months and after ordering it about a million times we finally got out new one
Catsarecoolish7 points7m ago
When this starts to happen I replace all the o-rings, I disassemble whole pump to make sure the spring isn’t rusting or broken, and I replace the white little cork things on the inside. My SM keeps all the metal pump parts on hand cause we all hate when this happens.
hantnah5 points7m ago
Make sure your store has some food grade lube. The pumps should be re-lubed (very tiny amount) every so often too.
nanobyte554 points7m ago
A lot of people are mentioning but this problem usual has to do with the very bottom piece of the actual plunger part of the pump. It is different between the chai and the frapp roast: chai is clear with a rubber gasket and frapp roast is white and more fluted. The pump rabies usuallly means the piece is missing, inverted, the wrong type or old and inflexible.
meowdrian4 points7m ago
There’s a gasket on the pumps that most partners don’t seem to know about. It causes this exact issue and will need to be replaced.
It’s not the black rubber one either. It goes on the base of the pump where the spring portion is. $1 The gasket goes right on that round end part and is thicker/harder (more like plastic than rubber) than the black or blue rubber o-rings.
Once you replace that piece it shouldn’t come out of the top anymore.
Imatallguy3 points7m ago
There also should be a washer and flange on bottom of the pump stem. If you look in your stores “cleanliness” manual it will show how to trouble shoot.
somewheredaydreaming2 points7m ago
Definitely worth checking the o ring and cleaning but if you don't think that's it, what I've noticed after transferring to a busier location where people are rushing a lot more is that the top part of the pump will slowly start to untwist from the stem causing liquid to get into the pump. Normally removing that part and re tightening it helps a lot. This goes for anything and is not specific to the chai pump
One_Ad43791 points7m ago
Take the pump apart and wash it
darklunax1 points7m ago
I remember I was the only one that knew how to take this whole thing apart in my store until I got fired
