we aren’t allowed to touch the food with gloves or without so I see no point. I’m never going to touch the food so why waste a glove?

also when not wearing gloves I can feel if I’ve accidentally touched the food and know to throw it out, but with gloves on I can’t feel so I may accidentally touch the food without knowing with gloves on and not know I need to throw it out.

I’m just not understanding why we aren’t allowed to touch food with gloved hands. I have managed restaurants and am familiar with health codes and food handling requirements. I guess it’s just a corporate thing?

it is a sbux thing. they want zero liability.

Wearing gloves gives people a false sense of security. You're more likely to cross contaminate wearing gloves.

Gloves can also harbor bacteria and viruses just like hands if they’re not used properly, changed frequently, and combined with hand washing. It’s safer and easier to use bare hands and regularly wash them. (Of course you shouldn’t ever touch food directly with bare hands.)

You should still have gloves available though! They’re required if you have a cut or band aid on your hands. They’re also just useful for protecting your hands doing other stuff, like using cleaning chemicals.

Starbucks policy says you can't. They say you won't wash your hands as often. Idk when I worked at dunkin we had to wear gloves. Honestly they are probably trying to save a buck.

Thanks for explaining! I’ve worked in kitchens for a while so I’m used to handling food with gloved hands, I’m a klutz with the tongs but I’m sure it will get easier

We don't use gloves at my store for cooking. If we need to move the food for whatever reason and the tongs aren't cooperating, we just use the food's wrapper to hold it. It's been touching the food for the past month. What's wrong with having it hold the food for another 10 seconds?

No gloves; the idea is that you’re not touching anything with your hands so it doesn’t matter anyways.

they don’t use them at the store im at either. it took some time getting used to. at my old job, (restaurant) i wore gloves religiously (especially when handling cleaning chemicals & sanitizer) and i washed my hands as much as i do at sbux

The policy says no but there is an exception if you have allergies. I am allergic to nuts so it’s over for me if I touch the banana loaf or that nut swirl thing so I am allowed to wear gloves but requires to changes often

I don’t use gloves, and you’re not meant too touch the food with your hands anyways

I’ll grab a glove if I’m getting a muffin that won’t be warmed, or a cranberry bliss bar. Everything else is all tongs baby.
