lil rant about being called racist as a minority (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by GamerGenocide
Our store recently transitioned to drive thru and everyone is struggling. 20 minutes before close someone comes up to the drive thru and asks for a pike with cream. As I go to make it (being the only one on the floor) my shift asks me to take a order on the register. It's a TikTok order that makes absolutely no sense... I finish the drink and come back to the window and before I even open it she's making a face and waving her money around. I looked up and it was 3 minutes since she ordered her drink. When I open the window she was extremely rude and kept asking "is the service usually this bad?! I've been waiting for 10 minutes!" (Was definitely 3.) I hand her drink and change and just say I'm sorry you feel that way and close the window. She literally comes back around the drive thru and asks for a manager. My shift speaks to her and she says something along the lines of "That young man's actions was racist. I didn't know Starbucks promoted racism. He closed the window in my face" There were 2 Hispanics and a Arab working at the time. nobody else. We're my actions wrong? Should I have handled it differently? I've only been working at Starbucks for 6 months and as a team we've only had this drive thru for a week. Everybody working was on my side and I wasn't in trouble. But man did it make me feel shitty.

The best thing you can do for people like this is kill em with kindness. It's why customer service is so exhausting; all you can do is smile and say "I apologize for the inconvenience, I understand your time is valuable and we will do better next time!" I know it sounds like you're kissing ass, and that's because you are lmao but it will save your ass when they report it to higher ups.

If they want to escalate it from there, get a SSV or manager.

no fuck them

had a similar experience and definitely not my first experience dealing with people throwing the race card as an excuse.

these types of people have nothing else to say and will use the race card as an advantage. I’m a minority too and the amount of people who try to pull the race card on me baffles me, as if I don’t experience the same shit as they do, or worse.

if they want to make it an issue, make it an issue if you feel comfortable. had a man come up through drive through and threatened us to call the cops cus he wasn’t going to move as he felt racially discriminated against.

you can always file a complaint and try to get them banned as well. just get their license number if you can along with name and any other info

Believe it or not she actually came back the next day and spoke to my manager.

1) she stated that she had never been racially discriminated against (she was 60) and this was the first time.

2) her kids told her she should be embarrassed when she got back and it was definitely 3 minutes

3) my manager said they were talking about it as is if it were the weather and she ended up getting a free drink and egg bites.

4) AHHHHHHHHHH. whatever man. another day another shit show
