Former ASM here, I totally understand, the roll got so incredibly frustrating that I stepped down to an SSV and I’m now just using the ASU benefit to complete my bachelors degree and gtfo. I was an ASM in a store that was being duel managed, I couldn’t even effectively hire people. The ASM roll needs a reinvention 😂

Any tea on why hours seem to be getting butchered across the US markets in what's supposed to be our busiest season?

That's the part that baffles me is that it's happening in the middle of Holiday, every year it gets harder and harder to recommend any more investment then Barista to folks.

I feel you, I’m an SSV that’s questioning the ASM pathway as I maneuver my last 30ish credit hours for my BA in organizational leadership. I would love the “pay bump” as an ASM but honestly question if it is worth it since my CC tips and weekly tip rate will likely make about 3-4 dollars more an hour, making me earn about what an ASM makes (if not more, for less work!!) I’m honestly questioning if I wanna ride low until my degree and then land a remote project manager job… I’m sorry, hang in there babe. ❤️ It might be worth it to look into ASU, it’s not a bad gig (they paid 15k last year for my schooling…I only have to pay ~300 for taxes).

I actually signed up to start ASU in January. But that’s looking like it won’t work out; I’ve already completed like 90 credits at community colleges so had to send in transcripts to ASU. They were mailed to ASU on Oct 10 and they’re saying they still haven’t received them and I should “send them again and hopefully still have time to get registered in January.” And then just sent me the exact same address I already paid to have them mailed to.
Just feels like ASU is as disorganized and unreliable as Starbucks and I don’t want to pay more money to have the same documents sent to the same address for them to just be like “oops we didn’t get them again teehee”
But I am def considering stepping back down. Especially now with the CC tips.

My store (low volume cafe) had 1100 in CC tips from the past week, divided by our (typical) 300 labor hours a week, it works out to about 3.66 extra an hour. I keep finding that impressive (I know it’s taxed out the ass, but still…) Everything should be electronic with transcripts. I’d call SCAP and see where the hold up is. Opt for electronic because that way you know the school is getting it. :/

Also make sure you’re using the right address/school code.

i’m currently on the ASM path and everyone i talk to really only talks about how it’s a great idea and can be so great to further my career so i appreciate seeing an honest viewpoint to some of the downsides to the position. i knew it wasn’t going to be all fun manager stuff but no one wants to talk about the negatives!! they move ASMs around a ton in my district, is it similar for you? and if so how do you deal with constantly moving 😅

Thank you for this I was offered ASM and didn’t see a downside
