Just wanting to hear some people’s experiences with the financial aspect of the ASU program. I’m still waiting on all my stuff to be approved. I’m basically trying to find out how likely it is that it will actually cover the entire cost of my schooling, I can’t be taking out $5k in loans. I’ve had numerous coworkers who had to pay for nothing besides books, but the lady I spoke with today in the aid department mentioned that sometimes the program doesn’t cover the entire cost for everyone.

Weird that the aid department said that. It’s covered everything for me so far, I’ve only had to pay out of pocket for books and other gear.

Pretty sure they meant that sometimes partners go over the untaxed amount Starbucks gives you, so they tax it and take it out of your paycheck (depends on the state tax laws as well). Some might have 0 paychecks which is what Starbucks says on their website. That’s where people get loans to help have something when that happens. I also recommend watching how much you go over. I have to do this since fafsa doesn’t cover anything for me lol so it’s a lot easier for me to go over it.

Depends how many classes you take. It covers a certain amount of classes so if you take more than it dispersed to you then yes you will have to pay extra. I was allowed $7 to use but only used like $3.5 worth for 2 classes this semester. Hope this makes sense!! If your taking part time classes you shouldn’t have to pay.

Also depends on the types of classes and your major type bc I believe they do cost differently, just make sure you keep an eye on the cost of each individual class.

Maybe they were thinking about how only about 5k~ (can't remember the exact number) paid is not taxable so it wouldn't be considered income. Anything beyond that would be considered income and is taxed. Also depending on the state you live in, a few states would just consider it all as taxable income. So when it becomes taxed you do end up paying taxes for everything. Starbucks will cover the whole tuition portion.
This is my first semester with the ASU program and I haven't gone past the 5,000~ "cap".

Thank you for this! She did say something about what I would pay in tax, but it was all a little jumbled and confusing for me. This makes more sense.

Oh gosh I just read back everything I wrote and it barely made sense to me. I'm glad you were able to understand that 🤣 if you have any other questions let me know. I'll try my best to answer.

So my personal experience: I transferred with a 3.57 from a community college. I had 54 credits. I took 12 this past year, ASU and Starbucks paid 15,000 for schooling. I went 1,000 over my SCAP limit of 5,250. I will owe ~300-400.00 in taxes that will come out in Feb. everything was covered tuition wise. I had to pay for books and supplies (like a computer).

ASU will apply a 41% scholarship upfront and anything remaining Starbucks pays for. Anything over $5,280 in a year, that Starbucks pays for, you will have to pay taxes on. So if your school costs $6,280 for that year you will have to pay taxes on that extra 1k. And honestly it all depends on your degree and how many classes you take. I am finishing up my first semester only taking two 3 credit classes and after the scholarship Starbucks has had to pay a little over 2k. I think it was that high because of all the upfront fees with my degree. I am registered for 2 classes in spring A session rn and it’s saying Starbucks will put out a little under 2k for that semester. Also if you have any other scholarships or aid you should be good. Unfortunately there isn’t a clear cut answer to your question but once you are accepted, ASU and Starbucks will send you lots of info and they list in My ASU how much Starbucks has had to pay so you can easily track that
