My store recently got an SM who has repeatedly ignored Starbucks policy to enforce her own rules. I had to call in for an injury and was promptly harassed by both my shift supervisor and my store manager through calls and texts asking me to come in anyway. I said I could not and that I would be using sick time to cover my shift. I was told to make time to have a connect conversation with my manager on my next shift and other baristas warned that she was writing people up for calling in. I have enough protected sick time to cover my shift and followed every rule for calling out. Is she allowed to write me up anyway? How should I respond if she does please help.

you cannot be written up for sick time!! sick time is protected!! hit up ethics and compliance or talk to your DM if possible, this is mega not okay

I just went through this. Partner Center is doing an investigation

I doubt she will actually write you up, We have a LOT of call outs like 2-3 a day and we were told to guilt trip partners when they call out and make them feel scared, bc they were literally calling out twice a week with a family emergency. So hopefully she doesn’t write you up tho she can lose her job for saying that I would call right away if that’s the honest truth that she told you

I got written up for “irregular time and attendance” with sick days, a flat tire, and a mandatory Covid isolation (along with 5 other partners) earlier this year. Fought it with pcc and won.. but it took four months.

Flat tire isn’t an excused absence. They expect you to Uber. The other things can be fought.

No way in hell I could Uber at 6am when my tire popped on a busy AF freeway, and I couldn’t even make it off the road so I was stuck on the narrowed shoulder in a construction zone. Not to mention I was about 15 miles from the store and it was 30 minutes before my shift. I don’t even think I could bribe a Uber driver to pick me up from that dangerous of a location. But yeah, *I should have found a way in for my 4 hour shift, leaving my car to potentially be hit bEcAuSe sTaRbUcKs iS wOrTh iT* 🤔

Also will never understand why baristas drive so far to a specific store , it’s so easy to transfer to one without a few miles of home. I guess unless you live in bum fuqq nowhere… but I have 3 partners who live like 7 cities away from work? Like why gas is so expensive

I’m just telling you what the rules are. I don’t agree with them but they would have expected you to show up eventually it doesn’t take 8 hours to get your car moved and a donut tire put on, again , not agreeing with the rules, just saying they would win that argument if you chose not to make effort to get to work within 2 hours

I just got written up for using my sick time, it does happen. I did let corporate know though and they’re investigating.

Make sure you are recording your sick time in the punch communication log. If you have not written it down, you can be written up for time and attendance.

If your calling in once in awhile it’s fine. For those who calls in on a weekly or monthly basis are the ones that are gonna be written up for irregular attendance unless they need an accommodation. That includes being tardy.
