Is it okay for my manager to not make exceptions for school, knowing I’m a minor? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by KeyboardSmasher66
Hey everyone! So I just started working at Starbucks, I mean like, just finished training new. I am 17 years old, for context.

My manager schedules 3 weeks out. I told her the day the schedule came out that I have testing on a weekend so I would not be able to work. She didn’t tell me until about 4 days later that she would figure it out. Okay, understandable, I was just glad she said she’d figure it out.

She proceeds to message me the next day, while she knows I’m in classes, and tells me I need to “figure it out with the girls”, who mind you, I don’t even know yet, because I was never introduced.

I understand that she needs coverage, but I am a minor. Even putting that aside, she said she’d help me out and proceeded to just dump it back on me.

Is this okay? Am I in the wrong? Any advice on how to handle this?

Thank you everyone.

School is most important and you should definitely explain how you don’t know how you’d “figure it out” considering you don’t know your coworkers yet. Do not ever miss school for work!

Thank you! I was planning on doing so, I just need to figure out how to phrase it. 😅
