I'm quitting. I can't work somewhere I'm "under constant surveillance" (i.redd.it)

Lmao what is a Wright up
bigghostb00ty 257 points 7m ago
I think it was the first manned airplane flight!
katsandboobs 30 points 7m ago
This made me laugh so hard. Take my award!
bigghostb00ty 3 points 7m ago
Thanks!!
rio8envy7 11 points 7m ago
It would be stupid funny if op was in Kitty Hawk
bigghostb00ty 8 points 7m ago
My folks live there, not many Starbucks save one in a Harris Teeter but a new corporate location just went up! I love the outer banks so much.
myredditusername919 29 points 7m ago
dose it
SimulaGargonchuatron 5 points 7m ago

Alefur 2 points 7m ago
Boss gonna be turning partners into White Walkers
baristatwinkie 2 points 7m ago
The spelling 💀
Impressive_Yellow_86 278 points 7m ago
I would quit because of the spelling and *grammer* and lack of periods or commas
governor-jerry-brown [OP] 147 points 7m ago
Yeah, I texted my mom telling her I quit and sent her this screenshot. She said, quote, "Yeah, that blows. Plus, a boss that can't spell. Yikes"
thechrismonster 43 points 7m ago
Did you misspell "grammar" on purpose? bc the irony lmao maybe i'm missing the "/s"
governor-jerry-brown [OP] 20 points 7m ago
Lol understandable tho I'm honestly not even bothered by misspellings. Happens to the best of us. I'm just enjoying a little pettiness rn
testingaurora 29 points 7m ago
My first thought exactly. Dose...
Cheedanish 6 points 7m ago
My SM is a *die hard* voice text user and doesn’t edit her texts. She has a heavy Chicago accent and often says stuff to other people as she is dictating the message. Can’t understand half the shit she sends me and then she’s frustrated with ME for not understanding her.
kimchichii 1 points 7m ago
This could probably be someone who is bilingual.
Throwaway2937726 148 points 7m ago
Dude the SAME thing just happened at my licensed store. Someone stole gift cards at another market so now we have asset protection on our asses. It sucks. All the work with none of the benefits
governor-jerry-brown [OP] 90 points 7m ago
Yeah the store was getting audited (it's a Starbucks inside a Safeway) so everyone was extra on edge last time I was there. A manager said something about how there were cameras in here when she saw me eating a sandwich (which was expired, and up til now it's been very normal for employees to eat expired stuff for free)
Asthmalord91666 1 points 7m ago
I manage a kiosk inside a Safeway, talk with your store director about that I can assure you you’re not under constant surveillance,do you mind me asking what district you’re in?

plasticflowerrs 28 points 7m ago
wtf this is happening to my store! i work in a target and assets protection has determined that eating cafe food that can’t be sold anymore is “stealing” so we’re wasting more food than before (they tried doing composting but that’s not working). i never knew ap watched the cameras until we were told the head ap watched all of us during the day. they’ve also been on our asses about getting one drink a shift (my tl said he was fine with us making as many drinks we needed to get through the day lol) and we have to be careful about eating our qmos food
Vistril69 14 points 7m ago
same. might’ve been a wide thing
jennacadie 9 points 7m ago
Gift cards don't work unless they are activated when purchased. Who cares if someone "stole" empty gift cards?
Throwaway2937726 10 points 7m ago
He was an employee (for Starbucks, hence why they’re watching US) who was fired. He ended up activating them after closing because he still had register numbers
justanotherloser3 3 points 7m ago
We are still allowed free refills at mine, I think
Jesslynnlove 95 points 7m ago
??? This is a licensed store im guessing, completely different.

I’d like to say also, fuck outta the licensed stores fast and get into a real starbucks. Its infinitely better. I worked at a target Starbucks for a year initially.
governor-jerry-brown [OP] 47 points 7m ago
Yeah it's inside a Safeway. The Starbucks manager (who the text is from) is very chill, it's just the Safeway managers cracking down on her and us. Seems like she got in trouble with them for letting us have expired food and making ourselves drinks.
foxfenelle 22 points 7m ago
Safeway managers are straight from hell no matter what. They'll always get on people's ass
(Worked at a Safeway for 2.5 years)
SortaSketchyNDed 14 points 7m ago
Was trained at a kiosk by a lady who made my life hell. For those few weeks she trained me she called me all kinds of things. (The R word was repetitive). She told me if I didn’t drink the hot espresso shot that came straight from the machine that I wouldn’t pass training. I had only 2 seconds and my tongue is still damaged from it. She never let me have breaks either. It’s hell.
PalominoCreste 3 points 7m ago
Had the exact opposite experience myself, I was miserable at corpo stores and then switched to a location inside a hotel and we were all much happier. However, it has much to do with who is running the licensed store.
Jesslynnlove 2 points 7m ago
Yah and the fact your location is in a hotel and not in a-insert mega chain grocery store-

Just like with your hotel, you’d be a Vons employee at the starbucks. A hotel that can afford to franchise a starbucks is probably fairly nice i’d imagine.
New2Nash1977 2 points 7m ago
How do we get transferred to a corporate store? Any suggestions?
Kristen2667 7 points 7m ago
You can’t get transferred, you have to quit the licensed store and apply and interview for a corporate store.
Jesslynnlove 4 points 7m ago
You dont transfer because you aren’t a starbucks employee. You’d have to apply as if applying for a new job and put your experience or when they ask you if you’ve worked at a franchisee location.

Franchises are typically seen as a training ground to a real starbucks. Atleast the target starbucks i came from, we’d make 700-900$ a day, perma skeleton crew. Hired at a Starbucks that makes 6k-7k a day. Its easy to promote as well. Alot of the tasks at a franchise that are done, are done by shift supervisors at real starbucks, so technically already experienced in a role starbucks will pay you roughly 22.50$/hr for.
New2Nash1977 3 points 7m ago
I worked for an actual Starbucks like 10 years ago. I see a huge difference in training, expectations, and everything. My current store does about $2500 a day, and I’m not in a target or grocery…for the info!
jennacadie 31 points 7m ago
This manager is wright. If anyone dose this, they should be fyred.
SNES182 20 points 7m ago
Write. Does. I would quit for that.
missgurll 18 points 7m ago
they’re literally a billion dollar company and cant sacrifice a few sandwiches and refreshers 😭😂
samren33 18 points 7m ago
EXPIRED, UNSELLABLE sandwiches no less 💀
feistybugs 15 points 7m ago
i wouldn’t take criticism from anyone who uses the word ‘dose’ incorrectly LOL
rio8envy7 13 points 7m ago
Hahaha I’m sorry it’s not funny but it’s way too grammatically incorrect to take seriously.
icech1ps 11 points 7m ago
oh no, not a wright up 🧐
ninjaturtlepants 9 points 7m ago
Does your manager send these types of messages via text? Another nope.
Long-Carpenter8283 7 points 7m ago
Assuming this is a licensed store… I absolutely think it is ridiculous that you guys don’t get any Starbucks benefits. The same work for none of the benefits, and possibly lesser pay….. so unfair. Y’all should move to an independent chain Starbucks if you can, a lot of stores instant hire licensed employees since your pretty much already trained AND you can now have all the Starbucks benefits that make it a little easier lol.
Notlikeothercatmoms 5 points 7m ago
I used to work at a licensed store that charged us for water. Run as fast as you can and get to a corporate store
AndrewtheRey 1 points 7m ago
In my super republican state even that would be illegal. Employees are required to be allowed water as needed and are allowed at least one free refillable cup per shift
Notlikeothercatmoms 1 points 7m ago
They charged us for the cup, so if you brought your own cup it would be fine - but still.

Don't like the vibes but the rules seem standard. At my store we put drinks on a table in the back and you can go get a sip when it's slow. Otherwise food and drinks are consumed during breaks

Also everything is rung up in my store
SelocAvrap 2 points 7m ago
Yeah that was policy back in 2018 at the store I worked at which was a corporate store. Idk why people are acting like this is new. I've been out of the store for a while so I don't really have an opinion one way or the other on whether it's bad, but it's definitely preexisting

can they hire someone who can speak correctly to be the manager? maybe start there
Necessary_Low939 3 points 7m ago
Uh… why be so stingy sm? Not like it’s gonna go in ur paycheck…

Whoever can’t spell write up correctly shouldn’t even be a sm.. just saying.
vkapadia 3 points 7m ago
Hey managers,

LEARN HOW TO TYPE IN FUCKING DECENT ENGLISH
Abject_Membership_28 3 points 7m ago
Unpopular opinion is that, disregarding the intent behind the message, we shouldn’t be making fun of someone’s grammar. It’s hella elitist. I used to correct grammar but then I realized there are people with learning disabilities and people who learn English as a second language.

It’s not the point, but this post was already worth ridicule disregarding any spelling errors if you use critical thinking.

That being said, your emotional and physical safety is priority #1. Job searching can be tough, and money might be tight, but you can’t run yourself ragged in an environment that makes you miserable. You deserve to work somewhere that makes you excited to start the day…or at least not dread it. Maybe you can try to apply to a corporate location? (Idk if that’s what you call the stores that aren’t independently managed/licensed)

Finding the right job can be challenging, but if you apply somewhere else and get a reprieve from this higher stress situation, you’ll be able to be pickier searching for better jobs while remaining financially stable.
official_koda_ 2 points 7m ago
I can’t work somewhere where a manager can’t spellcheck before posting to all employees
spacepoptartz 2 points 7m ago
They tried this at my store earlier this year, it lasted for like a week before my manager realized they’d shot themselves in the foot and now had a giant stack of receipts to review every week, ha. Hopefully they backtrack on it for y’all too, this is ridiculous
wetsocksssss 2 points 7m ago
Screw that.
Party-Cat-3605 2 points 7m ago
This is actually quite typical grocery store LP practices. They have a lot of employee theft in them unfortunately.
underurspell 2 points 7m ago
this is exactly how it is at Safeway starbucks lol
underurspell 2 points 7m ago
can’t consume anything without proof of receipt
Zealousideal-Star448 2 points 7m ago
… do you not get free drinks while working? You work at Starbucks right? (Wright lmao).
dontcry2022 2 points 7m ago
They're supposed to be consumed before or after a shift starts and on breaks. Otherwise occasionally during your shift you can go take a sip

The drinks have to be stored off the main floor, it's a food safety thing

Also items need to be rung up to account for inventory and labor
Zealousideal-Star448 1 points 7m ago
We don’t get receipts when we mark out tho? Maybe I’m doing it wrong.
dontcry2022 2 points 7m ago
Everyone criticizing the spelling makes me nervous like have y'all never worked with people who English isn't their native language?

But if it is their native language then yes it is funny they're a manager but haven't figured out spelling some pretty basic words
jennacadie 7 points 7m ago
These errors do not seem to be from someone whose native language is not English
makmelaf17 1 points 7m ago
Lol... sounds like a joke until, it's happening in a couple of hours... and uur the shift in charge....

Conference in BOH and no one is allowed back there.... btw I need to take a partner off the floor during a very busy time.....
Asthmalord91666 1 points 7m ago
Sounds like a Safeway Starbucks?
MasterMischievous 1 points 7m ago
What if I told you you were under constant surveillance all along?
Princesspoisonivey 1 points 7m ago
This person can't even write or spell wtf
quique772 1 points 7m ago
I would quit working for someone who gives “wright ups if anyone else dose it”
Abject-Variation-169 1 points 7m ago
Lol im quitting too because they hardly put me on bar and when i do they remove me with no explanation when i was doing a good job. Im moving no a non corporate location
Allopathological 1 points 7m ago
Why is your manager illiterate lol
bunnysbigcookie 1 points 7m ago
sorry i can’t take this seriously if they can’t even spell write
Traditional-Emu-1403 1 points 7m ago
I won’t work for someone who can’t spell write.
RicTheRuler16 1 points 7m ago
Use a fake receipt over and over
snugglefrump 1 points 7m ago
I couldn’t work for a manager that can’t spell.
Decent-Marionberry63 1 points 7m ago
Lol it’s the multiple typos for me
governor-jerry-brown [OP] 1 points 7m ago
Genuine question which might be stupid lol. Considering this is a licensed store (Safeway), would there be any sort of basis to report this to the union? I feel like the answer is no since it's about following store policy, not denying benefits/sick leave/stuff like that. Anyone with knowledge of policies and stuff know?
New2Nash1977 2 points 7m ago
I am currently the lead at a licensed store and we have a separate handbook, however we have a rep from Starbucks that makes sure we are in compliance with Starbucks standards, as well as hiring and training with the Starbucks Experience in mind. There are cameras mounted and pointed towards the register to keep us safe and to protect the owners’ property. It feels like an invasion of privacy, but Its not.

Can you live somewhere where you're under constant surveillance? Cause that's America
loco64 0 points 7m ago
Seems legit..
Dr_mombie 0 points 7m ago
Can you guys collectively fire them for bad grammar? If you're in a position of power, you should be able to figure out which versions of words are necessary and proper to convey a point.
chronic_life -3 points 7m ago
You must be in the wrong if you have a problem being watched at work lmao thats on yall for fucking up a privilege you had lol
