I honestly cannot stand the whole LOA process…. I feel like an LOA should only be necessary if you’re leaving for either a medical reason or honestly any other reason but for personal reasons is bs.
I have a cruise coming up next week and had to do the whole LOA paperwork and it went fine. HOWEVER next year In February Im leaving to New York to visit family for 4 days…..4… and I have to do the whole paper work and the whole emailing my SM and then waiting for the DM the sign the paper and it’s just so Inconvenient for something so simple. Every other job I’ve worked at is just like “ok cool see you in 4 Days”
This is just mildly annoying cause my family travels a lot and I hate to have to fill out the stupid loa paperwork every other 4-6 months…
the process isn’t the worst thing in the world I just find it so unnecessary…. I hope this made the slightest bit of sense.

Is this something your SM is making you do? There’s no reason you should be going on an LOA to be off for 4 days even a full week. Especially if you have vacation time
Kanjiung [OP]24 points7m ago
YES she kept insisting that every time I have to file an LOA and it’s so confusing cause it just makes 0 sense to me
mondrianna46 points7m ago
She’s trying to dissuade you from requesting off anything longer than a day.
Cathach213 points7m ago
I take 2 weeks off every year and I've never had to file a LOA
jklmnopedy56 points7m ago
This isn't right. If you put in a time-off request, and your manager approves it, then you do not need to file/request a LOA.
A LOA is only required when circumstances, like ill-health or car accident, force you to miss 3 consecutive shifts.
This is considered a medical LOA. Sbux also has a 30-day personal LOA that must be approved by your SM and DM and covers an array of personal issues, like mental health.
There is also the FMLA LOA for qualifying partners, which covers your own medical leave or leave to care for a sick family member.
Assuming you're in the U.S., you should NOT be filing an LOA every time you want to take 3 or more days of vacation.
mjooyeon23 points7m ago
This is correct. I just came back from a 10 day vacation and did not fill out an LOA. In fact, as far as I know, it should only really be done if you need to take more than 2 weeks off so that you don’t get flagged for not working (not sure if this is an official rule). Also as said, a personal LOA is only allowed every 3 years!! I’m very confused at how Sedgwick is even approving it
Kanjiung [OP]12 points7m ago
THANK YOU i figured something was off I’m gonna try to talk to her tomorrow about it
persona-22 points7m ago
If you want to really get into policy anything longer then 3 days not covered by vacation time is something a sm can ask for a loa for. Most don’t, but they can.
jklmnopedy2 points7m ago
No problem, and good luck! I can't imagine the headache you've had. I hope it's easier here on out.
verdeuce1 points7m ago
Call your dm too to let them know the information she is giving you. Because it’s 100% wrong
CBukowski80822 points7m ago
LOA for 4 days off? I just took off 2 weeks without even using vacation. Your SM is wilding out. Just request time off on partner hours. LOA is last resort.
renjaminbutton17 points7m ago
I literally took 9 days off for my wedding and just used vacation times. So LOA required?
plastixhearts11 points7m ago
plus u can only take one personal loa every three YEARS. Like girl I want more than 3 days off more than once every three years
BatWeary3 points7m ago
Really?? My coworker takes a 3 month LOA every year to go back to her home country
plastixhearts1 points7m ago
Omg how 😭 I took a personal LOA to ✨run away✨ from my ex and now I wanted one to go to a funeral out of country and they said no
mossygreentree137 points7m ago
you’re allowed to request weeks off before needing an LOA. Lmao as long as its far enough in advance. Your manager is crazy dawg. I’ve requested off 2.5 weeks for a vacation before and been approved and every time i vacation i usually take 2-3 weeks off. That’s insane!!!
Kanjiung [OP]5 points7m ago
I’m so glad y’all are also agreeing that it’s crazy with me. I plan on speaking to her about it tomorrow
pastelldillann4 points7m ago
My LOA to study abroad for three weeks was denied so I had to quit. DM said it was because I requested a personal leave during the busiest time of year… okay, great! You can either not have me for the holidays, or not have me at all. You already know which one they chose.
verdeuce1 points7m ago
What a douche
csaine2 points7m ago
Can you not request vacation? I requested a week for vacation last summer. No LOA involved.
verdeuce1 points7m ago
You only need to go on a personal loa if you plan to take 30 days off
verdeuce1 points7m ago
Everything else is just time off. Wtf
official_koda_1 points7m ago
That’s your manager telling you something wrong…I took 9-10 days off at one point. For vacation. Had no problems.
Vincent_Cromwell271 points7m ago
I take like a week and a weekend off every month lol your manager sounds cruel
WAtransplant20211 points7m ago
One of the college kids in my store is being required to request an LOA to go home for Christmas. Her dorms are closed for the holidays . She would happily pick up shifts in her old store. It's bullshit .
sweetmiilkk1 points7m ago
i went on vacation for almost 2 weeks and didn’t have to do any of that LOA stuff, weird
Party-Cat-36051 points7m ago
They're encouraging managers to have partners start LOAs if they miss 3 shifts-like call out, perhaps your manager is confused?
BatWeary1 points7m ago
This is weird. I just went on an 8 day vacation in September, and all I did was request it off in the app.
