Legal question (again) (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by caspi3
(Hypothetically) What should you do if your dm tells you that you aren’t allowed to transfer/ pick up shifts at non union stores in your district after cutting your hours to ~15 a week when you need at the very least 20? I know what they are saying is illegal (bc you can’t take benefits you had before unionising) and I have no idea what to do about it because I need more hours but I’m scared if I pick up shifts at other stores anyways they will seek out reasons to fire me. Anyone else in a situation like this? What do I do?

Are you a union partner? I would talk to your union rep if you haven’t yet.

You cannot work at non union stores if you’re store is a union. Transfer to a regular corp Starbucks store if you wanna have more flexibility.

That’s not true though. We are a corporate store. If we could transfer and borrow partners before unionisation, we can now. They can’t take away benefits we had before

Unfortunately, the moment you unionized you became separate from the other corporate stores. You're closer to a licensed store now. You'll only have access to stores IN your union.

Then how is it illegal for them to tell us we aren’t allowed to pick up shifts at other stores? We’ve had plenty of people transfer from other stores to ours. Transferring and picking up shifts at other stores is a benefit we had before unionising that cannot be taken away unless bargained on, which has not happened yet.

I'm getting the impression I'm not explaining these concepts adequately for you, so I suggest you talk to a lawyer. They can do a quick consult and tell you right away if you have a case.
