So I have this SSV, she’s an opener and my avalibity is more mornings so makes sense. But every time I clock in she tells me to go to reg??? I literally get placed on bar by every other SSV…and by myself 😭 I can not speak 4 hours straight to people that’s literally impossible ESPECIALLY during Monday mornings… what do I tell my SSV???

Positions get rotated, preferably during the shift, but it sounds like you get a lot of bar time every other day from your other shifts and only this SSV does this? That just might be your position on the DCR that day. Might not be personal at all, it might just be your turn to be at register so other partners may have opportunities to bar.

So you’re in bar pretty much every day and your complaining about being on POS by one shift. It’s a part of the job, you can’t please everyone. Somebody has to work that position and sometimes it will have you be you. If you can’t handle 4 hours of taking orders you’re in the wrong industry lol. Most places will have one cashier assigned for an 8 hour shift

Lol I still have the right to be tired of talking constantly… and I work all morning shifts this week and next week. I’m not on POS just one shift 😳

what about the other partners who are put on window reg the 4 other days your barring? do you think they aren’t tired and need a break from talking as well?
plaidflannelgirl7 points7m ago
prob just to give other people time on bar, if you have newer partners they deserve experience too even if they aren’t as good as you on bar

i wish my SSV thought this way, i’ve been working at starbs for 3 months and i will maybe get bar time if i beg for it, otherwise i’ll be on till for 5-7 hours straight :’)
plaidflannelgirl3 points7m ago
me too! i just started abt 3 months ago as well and barely get out on bar because there are more experienced partners. i’ll fr be on drive my whole shift! i brought it up w my SM and she’s having a meeting with the SSV’s about it!
skylikeslemonade2 points7m ago
i brought it up w my SM and she said oh yeah, it’s because there isn’t that trust between you and this one specific shift, you need to show them you are amazing on till
like i haven’t been a cashier since i was 15 like i didn’t pick it up really quickly, like i’m not fast,,, ugh anyway :’)
plaidflannelgirl2 points7m ago
that’s so lame!! like i applied for a barista job so i could barista… not cashier …

I had an SSV like that, I talked to SM because she made me mad uncomfortable and now I barely work with her. But it sucks cuz she’s an opener. I would go talk to the SSV first before going to the SM (like is it possible to rotate positions because I’m drained).

I was an SSV and my SM put me on register every single day, and during peak? I was reg and warming with no support even if I was drowning. When I asked if I could move? I was put to solo DT. Ask your SSV if you can move other positions, you should be rotated. I never was and was never allowed to run my shifts and I no longer work for the company because I was sick of being treated like I wasn’t a supervisor

One time i gaslight another shift who did this to me (always put me on window) and the conversation went a little something like this: Me: “Hey when you have a second can we talk about something?… I noticed that every shift I’m being put in the same position, can I ask why that is? If you feel I need more training on bar or ovens I’d love to chat about that but I personally feel like those are some of my stronger positions and even more so that I could be beneficial for the team/ really make an impact”
come to find out i was being put on window because i apparently am the ‘BeSt At TaLKinG WiTH CustOmERs’ but hey i got my point across while not looking like a giant asshole

Let he know at break that you're getting worn out. Depending on the staffing and peak times they might put specific people in critical places. I consider myself fairly good on bar but tli rarely get put in bar during morning peak. I always get cold bar during afternoon peak. Another barista always gets morning warming cause she can keep up w insanely larger orders.
But let your ssv know you'd like to be placed elsewhere or at least ask why you always get pos. You have a right to know to become a better barista etc.
