Kiosk vs Store (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Mikaylard
Has anyone worked in both a Starbucks kiosk and an actual Starbucks store? I currently work in a kiosk inside of a Kroger and it is incredibly disorganized and miserable. I’m wondering if a store would be any better? I sometimes think the kiosk is easier because we don’t have a drive through, would this be true? Also, we’re not allowed to accept tips and people are usually blown away by this. Do tips make that much of a difference? I love being a barrista, I’m just struggling with the way the kiosk is ran.

i’ve only worked in a corporate store but i’ve got a friend who works at a grocery store kiosk and it sounds like hell on earth. if you think a drive thru isn’t what you want, there are plenty of cafe-only stores all around! i would really recommend switching, i’ve only heard bad things about most licensed stores

Hi, I worked at a Harris Teeter/Krogers for 2.5 years before making the switch to a corporate store. Not only did I get a raise, I was saving 145/month not having to pay for my drinks. In addition, a bag of coffee/week and 7 food mark outs is a wonderful benefit. However, I work in a cafe mall location so the pace is different than a grocery store. Our store is a vacation compared to a drive thru so choose your switch wisely. Also, we get tips too! If you like a faster pace, plus all the other free benefits, go to a corporate store. No regrets!

honestly, switch to a standalone store if you can. ive worked at two kiosks and was amazed at how much less stressful it was at a full starbucks. you're never stuck working FULLY alone (which was a big problem i had) and while i don't know how your store is run, a standalone is likely gonna be at least a little more organized. tips aren't bad (i make about an extra 30-40 bucks a week working 30 hour weeks at my store) but getting free food and drinks is a very nice change.

there's also a pretty good chance they'll have newer equipment (i see a lot of licensed stores with the mastrena ones still while most of the standalones in my district have both the m2s and new ovens) and the printed sticker system (as opposed to writing on cups).

Never worked in a kiosk but I shop daily at a grocery store with one. They only ever have one partner working. The line is usually at least 13 people deep.
