I mean usually there is a sign up sheet. It's for if you want to work for sure. If you don't sign up, you might get scheduled to work. Unless you requested off way in advance.
My store has alot of people signed up so there isn't anyone who didn't sign up working those days...
Basic way to look at it is If you didn't request off, you might still work.

Thanks! The holidays that we have been told to pick three from are: Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, and New Year's Day. Several of us had requested time off, but we were told that these holidays are black out days and the time off would not be approved. The only time off that has been approved for these days was our SM's time off.
My biggest concern is that most of these holidays fall on days that are not in my availability, but I was told I had to sign up for them still.

At my store, Christmas is the only holiday that has a sign up sheet. Other holidays we just get scheduled for unless you request off. Look up the holidays that starbucks considers "holidays" and you'll see a lot of those aren't necessarily "major" holidays like Thanksgiving or Christmas etc. For example Martin Luther King Jr day is a holiday for starbucks. I don't see many people requesting that off or going home for that.
