Do any of you have a second job? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by ThatOneTransGirl
I’m currently working 25 hours to qualify for the insurance, I can ask my boss for more hours and I’m sure he’d be willing to give me up to 33-35, but I don’t really think I can stomach working at Starbucks an extra ten hours a week. It’s already mentally draining me. I’m just curious what other job anyone else does beside Starbucks that’s can work around a schedule and give you around ~20ish hours.

Almost everyone at my store has a second job, most work seasonal jobs with closing shifts, usually retail at the nearby mall

Starbucks is technically my second job, I work a full time job as a caregiver, but didn’t offer insurance, so I got Starbucks mostly for the insurance. I work 40 ish at my full time and 20 at Starbucks, I don’t have much life outside of that, but it works for me.

Typically no, I started working for the kid I’m a caregiver for about 8 years ago as a part-time thing, I was going to school to be trained in a therapy he was doing, but he has since stopped and I no longer work in that specific field, so because of that I do get paid more which allows me to just do Starbucks part time, but one of the other providers who works with the same family doesn’t even have her GED. So it will just depend on the place you are working for, but usually not much schooling is needed.

No but after holidays im considering getting a second job probably in waitressing or bartending. Just like you I just cant work another 10-12 hours at Starbucks sorry but no..🫠 Lots of partners have second jobs at my store working at food places. You can try a grocery store, retail store etc. We have a partner at my store who works about 80 hours or more total because they have their first job and starbucks is their second so i think it can definitely work out for you

A lot of my coworkers have second jobs. That I know of one works at a paint store, another at a car dealership, a couple others drive for Uber eats and one used to work at a grocery store

I also work at aldi. It's very physical labor and you have to be even faster than starbucks son working about 70 hrs a week I'm exhausted and my mental health isn't doing so well. Still can't afford housing or transportation. I'm done tbh. Bye yall lol

Technically starbucks is my second job. but to answer your question, sadly yes. I work 35 hours a week at my full time job and recently about 18 hours a week at starbucks. I’m hoping to quit sbux soon, as it’s so mentally exhausting having to show up for closes after working a full day. Where I live (Ontario, CA) the cost of living is so expensive that unless you make ~50k a year having one job or not working overtime puts you on a VERY tight budget. It’s a sad reality, but hoping to change it soon. If you can get away with working one job I recommend it, for your mental health and sanity. If you need another job try to balance your hours as best as you can. Try not to work more than 40-45 hours a week and make sure you have days off!!

I worked as an ER tech for a about 8 months before hanging up my scrubs for good in June. I worked 12 hour shifts, day and night counterparts, and it worked well. (Had like 36 hours at one job and 20ish at sbux).

I currently work part time in a retail job that pays me weekly, and instacart only when I'm extremely low

I can't speak for all of them. But you could try a grocery store. I worked at one when I was hired at Starbucks. I stated there until I was finally getting hours at Starbucks.
I worked at a different one location one day and one worker there also worked at Walmart.
If you decide on a grocery store, maybe talk to the employees at the location and see if the managers are willing to work with a schedule like that

Currently, I’m a student but I work around 25-35 hours depending on the week. I don’t have another job because of how draining Starbucks is plus having to muster the energy for school. Once I’m finished with school, I may decrease my hours and get another full time, so this would become my second job!
