We dropped rank and are not the fastest drive thru in our district. I...don't...care! Why do they think we care? Posting it in the back like we are gonna be like...ohhhhhh no! And our times weren't even that bad. Like how is 80 seconds not good enough? We need to get to 60.(self.starbucksbaristas)

When its 60 they will tell you to get 40
Caffeine-Supreme19176 points7m ago
Honestly! It’s never enough. District goal is 45, we have the hand held device that we use outside so they want us under 40, lately we’ve gotten 35 seconds and they say “I think we can do even better!” The team got a 28 second times Wednesday and now they expect that. Leave us alone.
jordanshaw8991 points7m ago
Lol I came here to say the same thing, legit I remember my dt manager would push for 30 second windows consistently and had all sorts of “tricks” like pulling food out early when he was on oven and even calibrating the machines to pull 11-12 second shots, speed over quality was his motto
friendlySkeletor79 points7m ago
I'd report that shit just out of spite
kobo156 points7m ago
The FUCK. 11-12 second shots would be the worst
deeciphered49 points7m ago
A barista did laps in the drive thru to meet our goal one day when we weren't busy
brainiaxx13 points7m ago
We had a shift get fired for doing this so be careful!
HypnoticPeaches22 points7m ago
That’s why you text a helpful friend unaffiliated with the company and ask them to do it for you. What are they gonna do, make you make them not come in the drive thru? Maybe the drive through is their third plaaaaaace.

Yes. We Are. Bzz Brr..
Zealousideal-Star4485 points7m ago
How low are your connections scores with a time like that. “How’s your day? Ok bye!” *throws Frappuccino straight at the driver and slams drive window closed* “I think that was a good connection they will never forget!”
kobo151 points7m ago
28?! Damn, my stores record is 36
CyzophyTacos73318 points7m ago
As a store that does 59 seconds on average... the goal is 45 seconds for us.
Andromeda-216 points7m ago
Same with the connection score. I worked at a store that had a score of 96 **during the pandemic in 2020**. We had the highest on our side of the US and my manager really said, “now let’s get it to 100, team!!” 😒
deeciphered14 points7m ago
Yup that's what we're told
If it becomes achievable they push it lower always keep them reaching for the unachievable
uwumoment6 points7m ago
then when it’s 40 they tell you to get to 20. no joke. they literally told us this when i still worked there. fucking bullshit and more money for the manager, fuck the manager, the baristas are doing all the actual work making the drinks and getting them all out on time.
StackOverFl0 points7m ago
How is the store ranked and evaluated? Is it something only among all Starbuck stores or non-starbucks also compete?
Theotar111 points7m ago
If it don’t make you more money it don’t matter.
Odd-Seaworthiness544 [OP]20 points7m ago
Precisely
Puzzled-Pumpkin196572 points7m ago
Some stores have to get to 45 sec..
CoffeMugThief18 points7m ago
My store does 😬
Sad_Current_138315 points7m ago
Mine does, I got us down to 46 seconds my last peak. I was excited, I've never been that quick on bar before, and I've been with the company for a year and a few months.
Creative-Clothes-5207 points7m ago
30 at the box 45 at the window
Cathach22 points7m ago
That's wild, we normally do like 35-38 for our peak. All day is like 50ish usually.
Vistril692 points7m ago
we have to get to 39 at window 😭😭😭😭😭
twistedcheesepuff1 points7m ago
Our goal was always 30
samren3366 points7m ago
literally though. when i’m on drive window i try to keep it around 50 seconds but if it doesn’t happen, why is it such a big deal? also, how are we supposed to “customer connect” like they want us to so badly in a 45 second amount of time?
[deleted]1 points7m ago
[deleted]
Asunaturtle60 points7m ago
We get 43 :) and they constantly push customer connections but get mad if we go over 40. Even more fun, most of our customers take the entire 40 seconds to find their app or count out change, but we get yelled at for not being fast enough 🙄
BatWeary61 points7m ago
90% of the time, the customers are the reason we aren’t hitting OTW times! At my store at least. Like, they wait until they’re at the window to pull their app up (which if they use it often enough, know it takes agessss to load). Or they start rummaging through their entire purse, or car, and then pull out a $10 bill and realize they need more. So then that’s another few minutes of rummaging around. And then they need 85 other things after they *finally* pay. Oh, and let them answer 5 fucking texts once they have everything…
My shifts breathe down my neck about it but I tell them what I tell my SM: the customers are slow. It isn’t their fault; we shouldn’t be rushing them in the drive thru. If they’re taking 5-10 minutes to find their debit card, I get it, that’s a lot. But 30 second OTW times when we’re running a 4 partner play during peak? Shut up. We’re lucky to hit 60. Especially when everyone orders $12 customized sugar bombs for everyone in their immediate cousin plus all their great great great great great great great great great great cousins, nieces and nephews.

RoccoSteal29 points7m ago
Umm the work is not even proportionate to the pay so why bother?
Odd-Seaworthiness544 [OP]3 points7m ago
Exactly
gabby2468120 points7m ago
Y’all my store is like the best store in the tricounty area and we still get shit hours and everything. Don’t listen to them about getting better times they don’t do anything for you in return.
Boring_Peace_67520 points7m ago
Our old manager said we can do better when we were at 38 seconds. Really pissed me off. Do these fast times get the managers a bonus?
BatWeary29 points7m ago
I believe so. But DMs will also write SMs up for not hitting OTW goals. And it also depends on staffing somehow (lower times=allowance for more staffing). Funny enough, when we have 4-5 people during peak our times are bad, but when we’re adequately staffed they’re… good? It’s almost like having 8-9 people on the floor is the secret to having good times.
This is what I’ve been told by my SM 🤷♀️ there’s a lot of factors to it but they’re all dumb reasons imo.
marigshu7 points7m ago
The only way OTW times impact manager bonuses is by increasing COSD’s. (Customer occasions per store per day). Typically your manager’s bonus mainly depends on the sales volume of your store. They changed it for a bit during COVID to be based on regional sales, but I believe it’s back to being based on your actual store.
Cultural-Ad116713 points7m ago
Today I just about had it with this supervisor that puts this ONE metric over everything. He literally told me that he doesn’t care about customers only his times. Blew up on me today because bar wasn’t going fast enough but of course it had to be my fault, the customer focused partner. I can get the timer to 35 easy if the drinks are made. So from now on, I will do the bare minimum as requested and when I stand idly by planted at DTW, when questioned, I will say “my supervisor said that times are more important than connecting with you so get out of the drive thru, please”.
tmart19312 points7m ago
My SM barks at us like dogs to get it to 35 every day, and we constantly fail because of how many 3-5 drink orders we get during peak
guachummus12 points7m ago
Back in my day (2 years ago) I had my store running <30 seconds during peak. Why the fuck did I feel the need to work so damn hard for a company that didn’t care about me
thebestdaysofmyflerm10 points7m ago
Ugh, I heard today that manager has been threatening shifts with write ups if drive times don't go down. The constant push for lower times is exhausting, it's really hurting the store's morale.
wooohooohoooe9 points7m ago
I get you, I’m a relatively new shift and our goals are between 45-50 seconds. But when our manager is there she hounds us if we get above a 42. 🙄
BeastBoy2point07 points7m ago
60 ?? our goal is 38 😭
charlottexgui5 points7m ago
this is mad bc a toastie takes a minute to cook, do youse dash it to the DT once it’s out 💀
Striking_Guest_93185 points7m ago
We’re expected to be at 45 (M-F) and “allowed” 55 (the weekend)
Ferngullyicious5 points7m ago
My store finally got 50 again and now they're asking us to push for 35 🙃
aint_that_right4 points7m ago
60 seconds was the fastest in the district?
Odd-Seaworthiness544 [OP]4 points7m ago
For those with lower times like 38, how?
guachummus14 points7m ago
I would always run my shifts from DTO so I could be expediting and lining up everything for the window. Ideally, the car’s entire order should be ready to go before they pull up, so you can finish the transaction, hand them their shit, and be done in under 30 seconds. I was able to make sure everything was ready by literally running around and grabbing anything that was done at the ovens, or going to CB to whip and lid fraps, or really anything else that was done/almost done that I could grab and get to the window. Obviously I had to be taking orders too, so I got really good at taking an entire car’s worth of food/drinks and remembering it long enough to get back to the POS and brain dump. There’s always those random cars who have tons of questions or order a bunch of egg bites or wraps, but 95% of cars can be out in <30 if the team is hustling and well staffed/trained, and the SSV or someone VERY quick is working DTO. But also, it really isn’t worth it to work that hard for the pay y’all get. I quit almost a year ago, but for the year leading up to that I was happy with anything under 40 because I was burnt out and realized it didn’t matter
guachummus8 points7m ago
Also, it took me a while to get to this point with my team. We were excellent at communicating with each other on what we needed/how long was left on things. We had a system down, but when I would cover at other stores I wouldn’t always be able to even get under 40.
Odd-Seaworthiness544 [OP]3 points7m ago
Yeah, it doesn't matter to me. We get nothing in return. No motivation to get lower tines. Just more stress and chaos. I will always do my best. I'm not a slacker. But I will not die on this hill. I get nothing extra for my effort of lower times. So it is what it is.
dankmobile4 points7m ago
My store’s goal is 35 secs :/ and our DM is always hanging around telling us we should be even faster (sub 30)
Commercial_Amoeba_243 points7m ago
We should all join together and try to make the average in all stores one minute
floofxs23 points7m ago
Drive time pressure is the worst - connect with your customers but do it fast! Don’t ask too many questions but when the drink is wrong and times go up they freak out. Like whatever I’d rather be nicer and more accurate than the fastest.
clee12213 points7m ago
60 is crazy! 28 at our store
friendlySkeletor5 points7m ago
How?!?!?
clee12211 points7m ago
Aces in their places, developing top talent, GO mode, coaching for excellence in operations, HME handheld, good car stack!
friendlySkeletor0 points7m ago
I cannot even begin to explain to you how much this response oozes corporate bullshit jargon.
clee12211 points7m ago
You asked, I answered… it’s all true though. Is it not? Whether I use layman’s terms or “corporate jargon” it makes no difference😂
guachummus3 points7m ago
Right? Anything over 40 in my district is pretty much unheard of
olliesbees2 points7m ago
my starbucks is the fastest in the district with an average of 33-35 window times and it’s still treated like it could be lower. we work our asses off and if we have a 40 second time for one day it’s like the end of the world
BeardiesRule1121 points7m ago
How many ppl working at once?
olliesbees1 points7m ago
7-8 on weekdays, 8-9 weekends
StickyNoteMurdercat2 points7m ago
This is why the 4 weeks I have worked at a cafe only store I refuse to go back to a store with a drive & will PURPOSELY look for a cafe only store when I eventually do go back to school for my grad degree. Legit my disability makes it harder to do impossible time constraints like that so I closed which works because I work better at night as someone who also works in music…but recently they’ve started putting crazy time constraints on afternoon crew WITH LESS STAFF & STILL expected great customer connections and perfect drinks even if there are like 5 drinks all with customizations! It was crazy! I honestly wish Starbucks wasn’t putting crazy time constraint on everyone in drive & emphasized customer connections more than the less than a minute drive averages that if you’re off by seconds you get yelled at. Like yeah we can get them out fast but like…the drive store times are NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE & as humans unfortunately we have off days & stuff goes wrong around us & we shouldn’t get verbally assaulted for that.
SmittyComic2 points7m ago
times should be equal to the time it takes to heat up a lunch sandwich not pour a coffee.

ItsAWildFelix1 points7m ago
WHAT. ours is 35 and they keep pushing for lower 😬
moonbean371 points7m ago
80 is high though.
Blocked_ID1 points7m ago
Now look, when you’re always on a 3 person play and people are constantly ordering multiple fraps and there’s not a queue..
moonbean371 points7m ago
absolutely. 80 is high but only if you’re actually given what you need to succeed. unfair staffing is not normal only normalized
Zealousideal-Star4481 points7m ago
They won’t be happy until the customer is behind the bar mouth open as we pull shots straight into their mouth then pour steaming hot milk in their mouth with beautiful latte art
Hazel_is_Trans1 points7m ago
My store goal is 30 seconds why I’m about to quit because I got written up for a time of 55 seconds during a Sunday morning double troubleing at peak
barista194710571 points7m ago
When I worked at sbux we got it down to 37 at a high volume store but they wanted us to get down to 25. Can confirm that you’ll never do enough for them
verdeuce1 points7m ago
80?!? Is that your peak time or all day
bkwsparky1 points7m ago
With card tips though it is now in everyone's interest to be fast. Averaging 15% tip on a $10000 day will be a lot more money in your pocket than $6000 (assuming customers will tip, I can't believe it doesn't suggest percentages)
twistedcheesepuff1 points7m ago
When I worked there, our record was 25 seconds and we got 30 or under almost every day and under 45 every weekend day. They would celebrate for the day and then demand more. It will never be enough.
shellybean87601 points7m ago
Mostly I’m surprised that 80 or near it is the best in the disctrict?? Idk at my store we STAY under 50
chansrightnipple1 points7m ago
Ours is the best in our state atm, at 32 i think but now they want it down to a 30
zattydaddy1 points7m ago
Damn… we have to keep under 50 always 😭
nonogender1 points7m ago
my store was the worst in the district for a while and now (i left a few months ago) it's one of the best. lmao.
These-Sky89311 points7m ago
We are expected to do under 40 during peak at my store. I'd gladly take 60!
Cheedanish1 points7m ago
My store JUST reopened from a remodel and they’re going to write up my SM for slow drive thru times. Nobody knows where shit is yet. Take a chill pill.
jazzysoranio1 points7m ago
And then when you DO get it back you’ll hear all this “congratulations team” as if you won something. When in reality you know you won’t get anything at all for your efforts.

there was one day my store got like 21 for peak and suddenly it was expected that we would get that everyday to the point that anybody who worked that day would automatically be put on what position they were on the day we got 21; I suddenly was outside with an ipad everyday for the entirety of peak. very much did not enjoy that summer (twas 2021)
